Most of what I have heard about eating at LeMans doesn't sound too encouraging, iffy Kebabs and greasy burgers. I will bring some grub to eat on the hoof, but what are the options for half decent food?

Are there any hospitality packages worth buying now, or available there?

My little S2 can't carry a full kitchen.

Buy a barbecue in the local supermarket for about 15 euros, go shopping every day for steaks and stuff and do it yourself. Dump barbecue at end of weekend. Job done

Go on a full blown salmonella and e-coli diet for one month. After that everything will taste perfect!eek Seriously, if you want to stay on site then your options are limited to the above suggestion of BBQ, but otherwise there are plenty of good restaurants within 15 mins driving.

I agree 100% with julesv. Exactly what we did. Failing that, Arnage is a good bet for roadside bars/cafes for a croque monsieur or four,

The dodgy food stories seem to come along each year along with those of the heards of pikies roaming majestically through the campsites.

Food at the circuit at LM is significantly better than most food at british circuits (aside from JP who is doing a fab job at improving MSV circuits so that sausages actually contain meat).

It's only France, it's not a third world country, you don't need to import dodgy British food just so you can eat. The fresh food in French supermarkets is very good and better priced that in the UK.

As suggested though, buy a BBQ and a coolbox, shop each day, buy ice to go on top of the stuff in the box and then you can eat on site without having to stump up for circuit food each time.

The food at the circuit is superior to any UK circuit IMHO. Even the merguez in a bagette is a decent option. Then you've got the sit down stalls selling pizzas and there's always the Tartiflette man....

FYI all.

On the way down there is a town called Sees. In the main market square there is a restaurant (forget the name) but it does THE most excellent Moules Frites.

Thanks, so maybe not that bad and yes French supermarkets are good, especially for fresh stuff. Getting on and off the site to go shopping must be a pain with 1/4 million people there, no?

Also is there a Decathlon cloes by?

What site are you on. Getting in and out from most sites is not a problem except on race day. I am on Houx Annexe and can get to a huge Carrefour within a few minutes. There is a Decathlon close by but it is situated down the Mulsanne straight so access is restricted at certain times! You can get there however when the racing is not on.

I'd say that the on circuit food has improved significantly in the past two years, particularly what you can get in The Village rather than in the food stalls behind the various grandstands.

The food in the 'village' i.e. at the circuit is good and the beer cold. Alternatively its a 5 minute drive to arnage at any time other than mid Saturday morning where there are a load of restaurants. A 10 minute drive (again any time other than Sat morning) will put you in Le Mans Town where there are loads of very decent restaurants inc a Thai (which is superb).

Alternatively you could sell the lotus and buy a transit in order to enable you to feck about with fridges, tables, chairs, gazebos, shopping, cooking, washing up etc - but as its a weekend holiday you may wish to spend less eating out.

yes

Even junk phood in France "roadside vendors, snack bars etc" is better than most of the stuff we get in UK!

I used to rate a Brands Hatch burger on how far the fat would travel up the arm that was holding it before it solidified. hurl

2:30am "Encore un Baguette steak hache avec shout ONIONS, moutard et frites s'il vous plait" (cos one is never enough when you get the munchies) is a welcome, if slightly expensive, snack. Plus nobody ever got the shits from Tartiflette, even those doggy looking chicken wings are fecking tasty. lick

Service station food in France would compare with good restaurant food in UK and they do not rob you like UK service stations / Piss Off ferries do thumbup

I have yet to experience crap food in france, either at Lemons or on my many holidays over the years. Sadly the same cannot be said for this Great country, I blame new Labia mad

Don't drink water out of the taps, that is what give you the shits, drink wine/beer/champagne instead. hehe

Decathlon is on the main Mulsanne straight at a roundabout opposite the cultural centre called Antares. It looks like a space ship and you cna't miss it. From the main circuit entrance, turn left and left at the next roundabout. Straight on until you arrive at the Mulsanne straight (one small and then one big roundabout), turn left up the Mulsanne to next roundabout and it is on your right.

I love tartiflette lick

Trouble is I'm dairy intolerant and I don't half feel rough afterwards - it's worth suffering for though! laugh

Good point - even the automated coffee machines that chuck out a decent expresso for one dingbat are great.

Why do I have to pay £2 for a crap coffee from Co&ta in the UK...

Very Good! If you know a way of getting that lot in a TVR S2 with a boot rack (not a huge Rangie you are leaning on) I am all ears. The frying pay may fit.

I am still deciding on these two sites, but it's likely to be Technoparc. What's access like?

AU Normandy is the place is SEES and the evening meals are also good

We stay there each year on the thurs night before hitting the circuit

As everyone says on here food is getting better every year and you can always get nice food in the old town of le mans itself

BBQ excellent and best idea though

Access out of Technoparc is OK. There is a bridge underneath the circuit at Tetre Rouge which allows uninterrupted access. Carry on to the end of this road, turn sharp left and the supermarket and other shops are a few minutes drive.
