2 Things wierd on my 996TT
Discussion
1. A strange kind of heat related smell that's not entirely unlike a curry in the distance.
2. A graunchy feeling through the brake pedal at low speeds and when steering lock is applied.
The car is running perfectly, steady temperature, pulls up straight, no vibrations.
Anyone got any ideas?

Not had either, but have you checked under the car to see if a plastic bag or something has melted itself onto the exhaust. As the exhaust warms up you would get a nasty smell.
Not really a plastic smell, more like a coolant related smell, but a bit curry like as well.

Radiators leaking ? I found the smell more noticeable outside the car after after I'd given it a sound thrashing.................

check your footwells for dampness - it could be your heater matrix weeping
This has bhuna problem on TT's for years.
Take the carpets, and poppadom out of the car and look for leaks.
Depending on which chapati the carpet is wet, it could be difficult to put raita
You might have to kofta the OPC for a new heather matrix.

2) Is that just the ABS kicking in, or is it always happening?
It's not the ABS - I can feel that when it kicks in over bumps or loose surfaces, it's pretty constant but you only feel it through the brake pedal.
I have experienced this a little as well. Just thought it was the ABS, although I was suprised that the ABS would trigger so easily. Might have to do some more investigation.
The smell you get after a thrash is not your brakes is it? Depending on how the car has been used in the past or if the pads are new, they might not have been bedded in properly yet and you are doing this slightly when you brake hard.
Heater matrix comments sound plausible - just off on a few days vacation but I'll check when I get back and let you know. Hopefully covered under OPC Warranty but you never know.
As for the graunch, wondered if it's somethion to do with the front drivetrain - I did have one fail completely on me once on a 993 with butt clenching results
