Zagato unveils new Maserati-based coupé

This is Zagato's rebodied Maserati, the latest one-off coupé from an Italian styling house.

Zagato received the commission from a Paolo Boffi, described by the styling house as 'a well known entrepreneur in the furnishing and luxury design sector'. Unsurprisingly, the firm has taken some of their earlier work as inspiration -- on this occasion the 1954 Maserati A6 Zagato.

The new coupé uses the chassis from a Maserati GS Spyder, and is therefore 180mm shorter in the wheelbase than the official coupé from Modena.

The car will make its official debut at the Concours d'elegance Villa d'este in Cernobbio on 20-22 April.

Well it don't look too bad from that single view-but how on earth is that roof fixed to rear end ? It only looks to be attached at the very corners eek

Maybe it's attached to the black thing beneath the rear window?

I think the dark surround on the rear window masks the rest ofth eroof line. The window seems to overlap a few cm of the roof and rear pillars. Just a thought

The front's not so nice either. Since the astonisingly beautiful Aston martin DB4 zagato, zagato doesn't seem to have turned out some more masterpieces, I mean amongst others the AM vantage zagato was, quite frankly hidious.

Come on use your imagination zagato and throw that double-bubble roof signature in the bin and design something else!

As I said hit or miss. Agree the AM Zag was pretty ugly, but I think the DB7 zag was pretty special, especially in cabrio form (in last months classic & sportscar). Loved the Alfa SZ, and the Lancia Hyena was a beautiful car too.

Anyone found any front view pics of this one yet?

Is it me or is there more than a hint of the Porsche 928 hiding in there.....? The Porsche wasn't a perticularly good looking car IMHO but this is very special. Does it compare with the Alfa 8C Competizione? Given the Alfa is gorgeous and only cast...ahem...£100k compared with the £x gazillion this probably cost I'm not sure but then if you're buying this kind of designer car do you give a hoot about value for money? (Probably about as much as you care about fitting roofracks and tow bars...)
