Anyone here play this or have played it? If so maybe we could get some good old PH style hoolganism going.

Anyone who is head scratching at this point EvE is one of the MMO things but without magic and dragons and crap and with spaceships and unlike kiddie friendly MMOs there is a very good reason to not get killed as you lose your ship, your equipment rather than the WoW like "Oooo I will just respawn like nothing happened".

Its also alot more socially involving in that solo play is very dull and you need a group of friends to really get the most out of it whether its doing research and manufacturing to make money to buy people to fight for you to being the mercs who take the money to fight to even just giving them all the finger and just taking up the life of a space pirate.

Basically think of it as a MMO of Elite.

There ends the lesson

I get tempted every now and then to join in the fun, but I know it would end up sapping all of my time like WoW did for me to start with.

I would be interested in this - if I hadn't already got burned by WoW. I bought an account, played it for 3 weeks solid and then uninstalled it, chucked the disks, burnt the key, and changed the password to something huge and forgettable, and deleted the email. lol.

A friend plays it with some of his workmates - it sounds a fecking good laugh, especially as their corp seems to be rich enough to own a system, and with their pirate alts are in an alliance with another an run a couple of systems.

Online Elite...could any game be any better? This is why I'm steering WELL clear

yes

I used to play it and eventually had to give it up for precisely this reason.

It's also rather hard IMO to play it as a casual gamer in any meaningful kind of way. You need to put much more time into than that to get anything out of it, especially if you plan on venturing into 0.0 (unpoliced) systems.
