ProCharged Can-Am : It's Street Legal
Discussion
Hi All
Just returned from taking the Can-Am for its first MOT and it passed with flying colours. After sixteen months off the road and lots of hard work it's great to finally drive it again. Still lots of jobs to do before Stoneleigh including heat shields, lots of engine mapping and a day on the rolling road. Its a relief to finally get to this point. Its also nice to know its the only supercharged Can-Am in the world. Unless anyone knows different!

Thanks for all the nice comments. Just hope I can get all the outstanding jobs done before Stoneleigh.
Hi Andy
I will be looking for 650-700BHP. I could go higher but that will be enough for me. Once I have finished the mapping the engine as it stands now with a 4.25inch pulley, I can work out what size I need to give me the desired BHP. With the 4.25inch pulley at 6,500rpm the supercharger will spin at 48,087rpm. The D1-SC Procharger has a max speed of 63,000rpm, so I can drop plenty of pulley sizes yet. It,s running 50lb injectors at the moment. I have some 65lb ones waiting in the wings if needed.

Can't wait to see how you've fitted all that into a Canam. Remind me - what BHP add do you think it'll give you ?

All been said before I know but the CanAm realy does look tidy Dave. It may have been a fair task to create but the really hard part is yet to come; Keeping the bugger looking that good!
Why did you opt for such large injectors Dave, I would have thought 36lb'ers to have been ample? Please explain your rationel, I am keen to know.

Hi Wayne
It comes down to the difference in Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC). Which as you probably know is the lbs of fuel an engine consumes per HP per hour. For your normally aspirated engine with race heads it would be in the region of 0.39 - 0.45. For my supercharged engine it is in the region of 0.55 - 0.65.
So the formula for a 600HP supercharged engine is
(600 HP)x(0.57 BSFC) = 47.5 lb/hr
____________________
(8 injectors)x (0.9 duty cycle)
The sum of what's on the top of the equation divided by what's below. This is based on using 43.5 psi fuel pressure. So this is the reason for my 50lb injectors. I am aiming for around 650HP so I am using a little more fuel pressure and a rising rate regulator. I hope this helps. I believe your Kinsler system uses much higher fuel pressure.

which day are you going to stoneleigh dave?
out of interest, i'm running 60Lb injectors - just checked my most recent log, At 7psi 5500rpm injectors were at 60%dc @ 11 afr. (hmm, afr is supposed to be 12, better keep an eye on that)

Hi Eliot
I sent you a mail a few days back asking you which day you were going!
I guess you didn't receive it. I'll be going on Sunday. What about yourself?
At least the AFR is staying on the safe side!
