As a general rule a car built/registered after 1/1/73 can wear the old style black and silver plates, after this date it should be the orange/white and black. However, I regularly see all manner of late model cars using the pre '73 design. Do we have any serving officers who can explain why they are not pulled? It's an easy job and all pays for NHS etc. etc.

Some get reported for it, but like a lot of other things it's not a priority.

I understand its hardly the BIBs priority, and nor should it be but it is surprising particularly given the nature of some cars wearing Balck and Silver plates. McLaren Mercedes SLR for instance I saw in Mayfair recently, lots of BMW Minis and the odd Porsche.

I recall eing pulled about ten years ago in my GTI for having the wrong font on my plates (correctly spaced but slightly finer than normal) at least I anly got an advisory....

Yeh but I would have to delete mine then or people would notice that you put "you" instead of "your"

I hope you don't think I'm being overly picky but I think you really mean - "perhaps I'm being pedantic, Colin".

It's possible to be a pedant and keep quiet about it, whereas in this instance you were voicing pedantry. All cleared up I hope?
