In the last week I have had my daughter referred to as 'parasitic scum' and I have been told that I don't know what I am talking about.
Just what I used to get when I worked behind a custody desk, only this time it is key board warriors not detainees.
Can someone please give me a good reason to remain as a contributor to this site, as summer is upon us and frankly I am more inclined to get out, work with some youngsters and do something more constructive.
I used to enjoy putting people right on the reality of police work, and I used to hope that if people knew the truth they might be less critical when things are not going well.
It has got to the stage now where I do not really care what people think.
At the end of the day I get the same money, whatever the opinionated PH'ers think, so why should I bother.

Anyone got any ideas?

I gave up bothering some time ago and with TVP having financial issues with redundancies both Police and civvies me thinks it's time to give it legs.

Some people just can't be pleased/helped/advised etc so might be best to leave for the summer and come back in September when all hell has broken loose and see if you still want to contribute.

Be a shame to loose the voice of experience though.

crispy - please don't leave. We need people like you. We have lost other BiB who were very valuable contibutors, some not even as loved as yourself

Being attacked personally is bad enough. When members of your family are reviled, this is, in my book, unforgivable.

But please continue giving us the benefit of your experience and knowledge.

And will other contributors please engage with our BiB in the same spirit that they engage with us (that will vary between BiB, of course ).

Never thought that I would plead to a copper, but,---- please don't go!

Members of BiB should know, given the amount of contact they have with the populace at large, that there are plenty of ignorant opinionated people about (there is probably a similar proportion in the BiB - I know there is in academia ). But don't let that fact stop expressing your honestly held views and stating the facts as you see them. Many appreciate the views given by BiB on here - even if they might not like those views.

If it cheers you up any - I spend my working life casting virtual pearls before real swine

Let me make absolutely clear, once again, that Police Officers are a vital component of this forum. Anybody abusing BiB here will be severely dealt with - definitely with a sin-bin and quite possibly with a permanent ban. Crispy, I'm sorry you have been subjected to this. if I'd seen these posts I would have taken the strongest action. Somehow I missed them, and still can't find them. Please don't leave, point out the thread(s) in question and I will take action.

Chrispy,

I have only just joined here. After some of the ill-informed vitriolic nonsense directed towards "police" in general in the vehicle recovery thread I am partly reconsidering this decision!

But hey, always remember that empty vessels make the loudest noise, and so long as I'm not the only one beating the drum here I will remain!

Take it on the chin. We all know that the ones who dish out this kind of abuse to us when we're working aren't worth bothering about, and they're not worth bothering about if they do it on here either.

You should see the abuse I've recieved on other forums - it makes this one look like a day out at a convent!

I'm sorry you feel like that, but to some extent I can see why you do. I hope you'll stay, as I'm sure the vast majority of us do appreciate the contribution you, and other police officers, make here.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

People get angry. I find it rather abhorrent that folk can make comments on-line.. vulgar abuse .. petty und malicious abuse.. some of which would be libellous if in a tabloid.. but for some reason the internet ist perceived as "exempt" because most of us post under nickmames.. are not necessarily known to public at large und ist "pub talk" as the so-called lawyer said to my sister over a dispute over a forum run by a magazine (which claim that the forum has "nothing to do with them!"

As said . people get het up. Part of keyboard bravado.. a bit of "heck .. we can be a bit cheeky to a policeman und wind him up a bit"

I banter.. I play on words perhaps.. but I hope never with a malicious or hostile perception. If I post up a tabloid BiB Bash.. I try to put forth the view of Mr Average alongside the "journalese sensation". Ist not with a bashing intended .. but rather . this was in the press.. this ist what folk out there think.. can you post something which set record a bit straighter .. which reassure that this ist nor normal ;}

I want more police. I actively campaign for more police. I do not want a police state. I just want a police force . who are professional.// judge.. use judgement.. intelligence to ensure right criminal ist caught. I think the BIB who post here are the sort we want .. even lieber von who bring out the cheeky in me .. but NOT any malice or even latent criminality. I try to keep legal .. even when I drive my car .. honest

Chrispy .. I enjoy reading you. I hope whoever posted such abuse to you feel right ashamed of themselves. That sort of thing .. I agree ist not banter ..und just not nice.

Ignore it. That type not worth even replying to. Do not give them the pleasure of a reply. They are really trolls if you like ... feeding off an angered response. Do not give them the satisfaction. They are just bullies really. You are not their victim so rise above them..and they und NOY YOU will smart the more.

Also .. hit the abuse button. They'd be banned within seconds over that sort of abuse to you. This site .. am pleased to know.. does not subscribe to petty malice after all.

I think the average PH poster has sense of fun.. a profession.. ist educated .. und has concerns over speed cam logic .. but ist generally law abiding, skilled in car .. on bike.. on bicycle. in job und enjoys life without rancour or envy.

Trolls are different .. ignore them. Rise above them or reply with logic und ensuing frenzied typing ist amusing

Stay.

I've toyed with the idea of not bothering to continue posting a few times, but I'm still here. Heck, I've even been in the $h1t with the bosses at work because of some of my postings...

I don't post as much as I used to, that's for certain, and I tend to (generally) think a bit longer before I contribute. I "know" who's worth engaging with on here, and who isn't.

Take it all with a pinch of salt; as Reg Local says, they wouldn't have the balls to do it to your face, so don't let them get you down.

PH needs you (us?) to try and set the record straight - if other PHers don't want to listen to your/my experience and advice, then fine, let them crack on. There are still the majority on here who are interested in what we have to say, even if they don't agree with it - and that majority is at least adult enought to be able to enjoy reasoned debate, rather than out and out abuse.

Ad hominem attack should be discouraged at all times.

Of course ist difficult. One person's idea of "banter" may be perceived as "hostile".

If someone was really offended .. I would certainly apologise as soon as I see their upet.. or modify .. or try to reword so as they see point but not a personal insult.

But I think chrispy has point. No one should post to him as he say. I did not read the thread .. so do not know the context other than this thread. But even so.. I would say no one should ever post or reply back to him in manner as described.

I will say I think Police Officer Porker to be of integrity und common sense. I may not agree with each of his opinions. He will not agree with some of mine. It would be a boring world if we all agreed anyway.

However, we should try to win arguments without petty spite. I agree that banter .. ist a thin line between causing offence und amusement. I try to make sure people are aware that I never intend offence by a rather irritating proliferation of those smiley guys biglaugh ... which does apparently offend the C+ brigade on this site .. but no matter .. I am ME anyway! laugh original .. wild .. feline but hopefully very friendly #
love

Vrenchen .. (ist short for Veronika.. but it sound like ENGINE .. so it suit me as much as Wildy Cat laugh )

chrispy has a point and one has to make one's own mind up.

I got incandescent when called Filth on SP&L, but rose above it. I'm still here and the perpetrator isn't. He was a strange one anyway.
