Your advise on type of mesh?
Discussion
I've just got my rear valance back from the painters and Iam about to fit the mesh. I can't find the same mesh as before in aluminium, so decided to go for a diagonal pattern instead. I can't decide between these two. One is finer gold anodised mesh and the toher is a course mill finish aluminium mesh. Both will be painted in black I think to show off the valance more and the stainless steel backbox behind. Also your opinions on whether or not I should paint the mesh. Iam planning on doing this by Tuesday latest.
The mesh was bought from a local DIY superstore called B&Q. The finer gold type was £22 for 1000mm X 500mm and the course one is £15 for the same size. I was planning on going for perforated but can only get it off the shelf in steel and it weighs a ton!
Cheers,
Dave Walters

Damm....I cant see the pics for some reason, not showing.
Dave are you going to take all the rivits out as well, or just attach somehow to the back. Can you tell me how you are doing yours, esp if your not taking the rivits out. I was thinking of replacing mine with some polished button heads or something after the new mesh goes in, to make it look racey but could be a big job.

I have some pics of the underside of the front of the car - just to show you how many bolts you have to undo to get to the mesh!
Here's a pic. of Dermot's grill - it's a very thick mesh, but very nice:
...except that you'll have to go to the website to see the pic and then click to enlarge as you can't really see it in this pic!

Sorry Kylie and all,
For some reason it appears then disappears but here's the links.

As for fixing it, my last one was bonding with a Sikaflex type silicone or windscreen adhesive. This does away with any obtrusive bolts, IMO a lot cleaner.

Nice, hes done a great job on it. My father still works in a large engineering workshop, might just ask him whats lying around. Or am sure he can get great prices. I went shopping for some the other day and couldn't believe how expensive it is. So bugger that.
Latest update, I've temporary fixed the centre piece in gold. What do you think? Iam not sure. Black mesh to follow after lunch.
This will look superb on a black car (Kylie's possibly).

I've put some pics of the undertray bolts on my car - Dave - did you successfully get all the bolts off? It doesn't look like an easy job. BTW, the mesh on Dermots looks exactly like the mesh on a Jag XKR, but I think he just bought it mail order from Demon Tweeks or whomever.

Doors, haven't tried to get the old bolts off yet. They're all rusty and will need drilling out.
As for the mesh, I think that the front end mesh is much more coars and open than the rear end. It like that on mine anyway.
Me again, sseing as there are problems with the pics staying on the forum, I'll just leave the links instead.
I now have both the black and gold mesh, not much in it and from the camera angle, you can't really see the sun reflecting off the gold. I've done the black in matt finish.
Which is better?

Ahh thats better, I can view those links. I think the black looks good against your colour car. The gold dosent really go. I think gold would look better on darker cars or even bright white, so it stands out. So I im thinking grey or std raw metal, polished alloy, black or even charcoal would be the way to go for a choice of colours. I have the feeling you have your heart set on black?? Does look great so far.

I think we're confusing Dave - as I told him that I thought Gold looked good!
Anyway - Dave, what did you spray paint it with - what kind of paint? I really want to do mine, just couldn't be bothered with all those bolts to undo!
Doors.
Doors & Kylie, I've kept it gold for the time being. I've also bought some matt black spray which I have been told will adhere better.
My reasoning it that I will run with the gold for the next few weeks. If it looks too bad, I can spray it insitu.
A weird thing has just happened. I've just installed Norton Firewall and all the pics have reammurged for some strange reason, can anyone explain?
Cheers,
Dave Walters
