Just wondering what models people are using, are you getting from the USA to get higher powered ones. Anyone using CB radios?

There will be multiple cars in our convoy and mobile phones were a pain last year.

Cheers guys + gals

we use the 10 mile usa radios for the journey down .But get very little activity when you get there as there actually illegal in the uk due to the wave length i think. They say 10 mile but only if you have no obstructions ie:- only on the motorway
if i was you get the ones from argos it seems thats what every one else uses

We have some US Radio Shack ones and they work pretty well between cars. Not sure of the range but they work well enough.

We bought some BT ones last year and they were crap - way too many people on the same channel and vitually no range on them.

With the £/$ as it is I'd be tempted to wack in a US order now.

Had 4 motorola's off e-bay for £40 a couple of years ago..

Great on the run down the motorways.. and they take regular AA batterys as well as the rechargables they come with so you don't have to worry about keeping them charged..

S1mon.

Bought a couple from Maplins a few years back, had a bit of fun with some others on the way home.
Not the best of ranges, but plenty good enough for a group of cars.

We use just the normal Argos/Maplin ones (think they say 8km range) for all our EuroHoons and they work fine. Enough range for a group of cars that's for sure. Definitely not from one side of the track to the other though (at Le Mans)

Like all radios of this type they are effectivly "line of sight" The Radio Shack ones were $18.00 plus some odd change for sales tax and work on 462.5625-467.7125 meg @1.5 watts (most hand held CB were 500mw) slightly higher frequecy the the legal UK modals. These say "10 miles" but that would be across a valley not in built up area, plus with all the telemtery being run by teams the radio waves get hammered during a race. We tested ours a couple of years back and from the Fountain at Arnage I cauld talk to Piglet just before she crossed the railway tracks so about 1KM through buildings and in cars....

We have 4 of these which do the job

www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=107735&_LOC=UK

Waterproof, take AA's incase you forget the charger and can do hands free.

Only 6km range though, but its enough imo esp in the open countryside of france The range around here (built up west london) is about half a mile.

Last year I took a pair of my Kenwood Bike radio's down. At a full 5 watts it was possible to speak to the wife who was shopping in Carefore whilst I was sitting in Mason Blanche.

Professional Radio's kick the ass off the shite you buy from Argos or Maplins ... if you re-use then you can even justify the £100 price tag.

This year weve gone one step further .. we have radio's that allow closed group discussions. digitally locked channels to keep the oiks out and our conversations clear.

hit and miss with range dependant on where you are, tested on run convoys and very pleased with them

We have about 12 of these among the group, if you ask, you will get a discount if you order more than a couple.
Very good for the price, will link up to about three miles and their are hundreds of channels to use. And they arrive within 10 days!

folks, just remember to give yourself a call sign otherwise you wont't be able to tell who's talking cause by the time we got to Le Mans there must have been 20 other people using the same frequency.... Ace for finding the footie score out tho

Ah, good point! Although I must say we never had that problem last year.

Just make sure everyone in your group is on the same sub band or whatever its called though. We were using 8 30 and one car was just on scan, so when they got to 8 they could hear us, but being on some other frequency they couldnt respond.

That was on the way down at a toll, we thought we would be miles ahead! We only found out when we met up at the B&B down there!

Due to lack of funds this year were have decided to use the cup and string idea, not sure how long he string needs to be, I supppose its going to be trial and error.

See you all there

In June 2006, a crack drinking unit was sent to prison by a kangaroo court for a crime they did not commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security relationship stockade to the Le Mans Underground, where they survive as soldiers of debts. If you have a problem, if no one else can help and if you can find them sober, maybe you can hire... TEAM STELLA

We took these last year, they caused nothing but arguments...

In fact we threw them off the ferry at the end.
