Fluffy's (4lt, year 2000) been running great since I got her end Feb but let me down this morning. Fired up fine but cut out every time took foot off gas at junctions, wouldn't idle at all but it was very early so no major embarrassment!

It was a bit cool and damp, she does live outside and once temp guage got to about 70 the problem seemed to go away. So I guess that might be the reason but what do I do about it? Please bear in mind I'm a laydee therefore all things too technical have to be explained in words of 1 syllable. Would I be right to suspect my HT leads? I seem to remember a similar problem long ago with a 2lt Crapi and a new set sorted that out.

Sounds very like your stepper motor needs cleaning! It sets the idle when the engine is cold which would explain why the idle sorts its self out when it is warm... Heres a nice easy guide (it only takes 5 minutes) www.tvrcc-south-wales.co.uk/stepper.asp

Give it a good scrub with some white spirit and a rag and make sure you do the socket it came from as well as the plug you take out. Repeat this every few thousand miles and you shouldn't have the problem again...

Hope that helps!

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I must have a read of the bible too!

Mine have all done that on & off. Tis great fun though when combined with naff handbrake! (Develop the technique of foot on brake, with side of foot pressing throttle just enough to keep revs at 1,000.)

Checked the stepper motor last night - was more like the "after" picture, nice and clean so I guess that's not my problem.

It was cold again this morning (but no damp/condensation on car) and she ran like a dream confused

Will have to see how we go on and try to master that heel/toe routine although with size 4 tootsies it ain't easy!

Adjust the pedals to suit?
