I just don't get the spiders wheel thing? Is it me? Back in the 90's for old VW Beetles you 'needed' orginal BRM wheels IIRC - this I could understand they are very rare and looked the biz. Beetles were 2 a penny and therefore add ons such as wheel added a big increase in value to the car.
But the Cerbera it is the engine and body work that is the main asset/rarity.

SO what is it with spiders - enlighten me please.

I think it's OK if you want the car to look newer than it is, but that's not my thing & each to their own.
My 4.2 has the original 16"'s on & I've never been tempted to change them, or put the later lights on.
Likewise, my 4.5 has the 18" spiders on, and that's how it was crated. And I've no intention of putting older wheels on or changing back to the old headlights.
Fortunately, every body's different.

I agree the original Cerb wheels look fine, For me the RL7 is a better option than Spiders, Tyre fitment (Toyo R888's were not available in 16 or 18 inch at the time, don't know if they are now, but I still aint going to change) handling has improved and they are considerably lighter than the originals. Plus they don't bend as easily as Spiders and kerbing is less of an issue.
As for a dealer implying that Spiders are an essential mod. for resale values
then you are at the wrong place to buy or a sell a car matey, unless the prick has extended his knowallbutfcukall ethos to pricing down his sales

i'm a big fan of the 18" spiders as they fill the arches nicely, plus I think they suit the modern look of the cerb. Having them was a real stickler for me when I was cerb shopping. Any cars that didn't have them I tried to haggle down to cover the cost to purchase some. However, I really don't like the turning circle thats the down side, ive also heard the handling suffers but i've not done the comparison myself. Now ive got new shocks/springs the car handles perfectly in my view!
they were part of what i wanted in a Cerb..... the colour Crystal Topaz, a 4.5, full leather and spiders all in a daily drive an pukka cerb, i was lucky to get it all
unrelated but two people came over to me whilst i was inline for the petrol pumps to say how good the car sounded, great that people still appreciate the sound rather than the usual quiet anodine saloons out there...

Tricky one really, I think Spiders look really good on a Cerb, particularly if finished in black or anthracite, can understand why people like them. Raceline 17" wheels look the business too. Trouble is Spiders do have a tendency to buckle easily on potholes or by curbing and reduce turning circle as you have to fit bump stops.
Racelines are not without problems as they do have a reputation for fracturing, some say this was only on the quite rare 18" Racelines, others say its a general problem and why TVR dropped them.
Finally, now don't laugh, theres nowt wrong with OZ Saturn's, wheels the original cerbs came with, early 4.2s and speed six versions, OZ have very good reputation as racing wheel manufacturer but most owners don't like them because they are 16" diameter, so not such a wide range of very low profile tyres available and they make the car look a bit more early nineties, however they are dirt cheep, have a couple of sets myself, main set satin black which look pretty good for not a lot of money.
If you want the best set-up at the moment have a look at the SP12, 12 spoked wheels, they are lighter than Spiders or Racelines, tougher in construction and were actually designed for the cerb, which Spiders apparently weren't.

Would not waste time and money on wheels. The car is a 'Wallet Limpet' as it is. Push comes to shove though, spiders ascetically leaps ahead of all others, though I can't remember what I have fitted so I will just go and check..........................
....... Oh Yeah, now I remember - Spiders!
