Hi there

The brake system on the Griff following a number of highspeed stints does not really work too well.

I am thinking of upgrading it. Does anybody have any experiences on upgrades. I don't really want to change the wheels, so it will have to fit the current setup.

I guess the many problem is the front calipers.

Thanks
Tom

If you have 16" fronts you can fit just about anything. A pair of 2nd hand AP fronts from any later TVR can made to fit with an alloy adapter, and would be my choice - but I may be biased

I've got a Wilwood conversion on my Griff 500 - done for the previous owner by Austec in Crawley ..... it's great but I don't think it's cheap. Standard wheels but new calipers, discs and pads. I've never tried a standard set up but no other car I have driven had brakes quite like these

You can use 283mm discs with Granada Scorpio calipers as a direct fitment with no modifying. Just so happens i have a pair of Scorpio calipers!!! ill probably put them on the classifieds later

I'd go for the rally design willwood 4 pot kit and 300 rotors which should squeeze under,or if you go for a bigger wheel, get some of these and prepare to have you guts around your nads when you hit the stopper pedal...

These were fabricated in NZ and just squeeze just under a 17 ,I said you can get the UK 4 pot kit to fit under a standard wheels.

Thanks! Looks really sharp. Stopping power must be.... on the spot.

What about the back? Wht kind of setup do you have in the back. I guess it must be something similar.

If you want to keep the standard wheels and want a cheaper upgrade than the ones mentioned above.

Fit cosworth sierra/granada calipers and 283mm discs.

I have just done this conversion for a lot less than £100 and put the money saved towards my Protechs.

To be honest they were made for the race car that will be having 4 pots and 300x 28mm rotors at the rear, but I had them on a Chim 500 for a while, rear were standard, however brake balance seemed to be still pretty good, flat spotted some brand new tyres on lock up before I got the hang off them.

Can old64er tell me which parts are required for the cosworth brake upgrade, and whether they will fit the 15" TSW split rims on the 1992 Griff 430's?

I see that a few people have gone with the TVR AP 4 Pot calipers, which models do you get these calipers off, also what disc size is prefered as I have seen 300 and 305 mm.

My disks are AP304 - I assumed the 304 was the size. Calipers are JO462 & JO463 TVR parts - same as T-Series cars AFIK. Caliper mounting bracket is JO751 (not handed) but I guess you could have made up. I'm pretty sure someone had 4 stud hub versions...

I put the big discs and 4 pot Willwoods from Tower View onto mine - work much better than the old set up (which needed replacing anyway). Expensive, but stops nicely even after a thrash on the track. Kept the standard wheels, but had to grind a bit off the bottom of the Willwoods (after discussing this very carefully with Tower View). Was a reasonably straightforward job to do yourself. Google Tower View. While you are at it, put braided hoses on.
