Day and Night panoramas
Discussion
with the recent panorama comp running I was wondering how to take photos; as if to stich them together but leaving a few hours between them.
The idea is for joining, say 3 pics, the 1st in the morning, 2nd in the afternoon and the third at night.
how would I go about this?
I've tried auto stitch but it doesn't recognize the overlaps (I guess due to the difference in colour)
has anyone managed to do this?
All ideas welcomed

Rather than stitch them together, would you not prefer to have a triptic (is that the right word?) whereby you have three seperate images but part of the same overall photogrpah. As an example, like this....

if i was going to attempt this, i'd take the images and give them a good bit of overlap. then maually stictch them together and use the history brush (if using photoshop) with varying levels of opacity and a "fluffy edged" brush to blend the 3 shots together. will be a fair bit of work but i think the result will be what you're after.

I'm a real novice with photoshop, how do I stitch them together?
or is it an overlay and erase jobby?
Rich
Yes i think this one is an overlay and erase to fade the 2 in togther.
to stitch shots together manualy (sp), you really need to take them with a tripod that has a rotating head (to be able to pan round). make sure that it hasn't moved during the day (height and angle). this way you can be sure that you will get the best result.
then when processing i would open all the images up that you want to use as well as a new blank image. this one needs to be the width of all the other images added up. then line them all up, you have to play with the opacity so you can see that it's working right. once you're happy up the opacity on them all and start to fade them in with the history brush at varying levels so they blend.
this is only one way of doing it and there may be easier ways. i too am far from an advanced user of photoshop or a camera. i've just played around with things to see what i can come up with.
this thread has tempted me to go out and produce some of these shots though. i've done this sort of thing with selective colouring and bluring of shots, but not with shots from diferent times of the day.

you'll get that effect by putting it together as i mentioned above. will just take patience.
