I have heard that only two F1 drivers have died of natural causes(ie not in some kind of accident)James Hunt&Juan-Manuel Fangio can this be true?

I guess F1 as we know it today really started in the early 50's so it's fair to say many of those drivers who survived racing should still be alive today...

Are you sure that stat isn't F1 champions (Fangio, Hunt etc) rather than all F1 drivers?

Richie Ginther, Giancarlo Baghetti, Vittorio Brambilla and Masten Gregory all died from poor health issues so, to answer your original question, it's not true.

Saw him on ITV's Goodwood coverage last year and he did look rather frail, I believe he'd been suffering from poor health leading up to the event. Mind you, don't want to get into a speculative discussion about it.

No definitely not, but a hell of a lot of them that have died have been killed in car accidents. But then racing was far more dangerous 50 years ago.

According to wikipedia 45 drivers have died during a FIA World Championship race weekend, or elsewhere while driving a Formula One car - Seventeen drivers died in the 1950s; thirteen in the 1960s; ten in the 1970s; four in the 1980s and two in the 1990s.

Why isn't Alain Menu in the F1 list? I thought he drove F1 before touring cars, or was he just a test driver?

It's champions, not all drivers. Sounds impressive, but there aren't that many, and a lot of them are still alive.

I'm pretty sure Menu is still with us.

But he never drove an F1 car competitively in a GP.
