Discovered something new - boot drain hole
Discussion
After 3 years of ownership still discovering new things. Today I was having a hoon and kept smelling oil. Weird. Stop at petrol station , check under bonnet. Nothing wrong but she needs a half litre anyway so I open the boot and find the 4 litre bottle in the boot is now a 1 litre bottle with the other 3 in a big pool. Bugger. Then notice oil covering the back of the car. Aha. Oil is dripping out through a drain hole onto the road then spraying the back of the car. And its also blown back to coat the nearside wheel. That would explain some of the unexpected sideways action then...
Is this through the 3 holes at either "back" (farthest from bumper) corner of the boot? I'd assumed they were to improve exhaust of air drawn from the cabin through the bulkhead vents. Of course, things as they are, I could just be over-thinking things and it's just where someone slipped with a power drill when making mine...
This is just one hole, underneath the car about 2 inches in from the edge of the wheel arch behind the rear wheel. It just a round hole goes right up into the boot. Thought I'd got all the oil out yesterday, but came out after a hard days graft to find that the heat had loosened the oil and another big pool was sat under the rear n/s wheel. Another careful drive home.
