We took the cerb to the west coast of Scotland for a few days last week, it was fully loaded with luggage, 2 adults and a boxer dog in the back. Driving over anything that resembled a slight dip, either the rear wheel (s) could be heard rubbing, or something was grounding, I couldn’t tell which. So was wondering if this was an indication that the shocks are a bit tired, or it’s to expected when fully loaded?

Secondly, I don’t do trackdays, I don’t really need to as the roads around Aberdeenshire are enough fun by themselves, but I do travel on a lot of bumpy B roads, so what shocks would suit best?

Sorry if I’ve waffled on a bit, but any feedback gratefully received.

Cheers

Rob

Have a word with Joo @ Trackcar, he'll give you good advise and he can offer good affordable packages or really expensive Nitrons.

Just make sure your exhaust isn't grounding. Mine dropped a couple of inches and would scrape on the floor on the biggest bumps.

She's done 21k and is a 2001 model, probably due for number of consumables soon... grumpy but it's all worth it

Gaz shocks seems to be quite popular just now, how do they compare to Protech? From what little i know, i believe Nitrons would be a bit too firm for the bumpier road, but i could be wrong.

I'm on Nitrons, and the ride is good but I do notice it skips around quite a bit on the bumpy roads common around here. If you've not sorted any out by the time I get mine back you can come for a ride and see what you think. I also have the rose jointed drop links and noticed roll was reduced quite a bit when fitted so may be worth thinking of as well.

Joos at TrackCar will give you sound advice based on what you want to do with the car and will give you a honest opinion not a biased one.

I took mine ('99 4.5) away at Easter, with 2 sets of clubs, full set of luggage for two of us and a hundred Easter eggs... lots of winding bumpy roads, and no problems (phew) so I'd look at the shocks.
