Since my ('02 Td5 ES) Disco has apparently been depreciating faster than I can save the money, and it's time to replace it, I was thinking of outing it and buying something cheap (~£5-7K) to haul the TVR to sprints (and for going here; www.morroch-bay.com). One of my fellow sprinters has just bought a P38 Rangie already converted to LPG. Looking at Auto Trader, I see there are one or two about. Apart from the fact that they've all done galactic mileages, is there anything about the gas conversion I should be wary of?
Don't buy one that has a single point conversion. Multipoint, and preferably sequential is the way to go. The spare wheel well will fit a 95 litre tank. The ecu can get a bit confused by running on different fuels as it has adaptive values stored for timing etc. A reset every once in a while with the diagnostics kit is needed if it gets too bad. Must have the conversion certificate with it or insurance could be interesting. Should really have the fuel type changed on the V5 too.
My LPG '98 4.6 is for sale at the moment at only slightly over your budget.

Gotta link to the Rangie?
(If you've startline marshalled at Prescott in the last 3 years when the TVRs have been there, I expect we've met! And could we please have some dry weather this year? Powerboating's all very well, but not up a hill in a TVR.)

My 97 Multi-point LPG 4.6 WILL be up for sale very soon, and in your budget...

We've got a job lot of industrial strength sunshine ordered for this year so no need for that Tuscan racer to go up on slicks in the pouring rain again.

Poor old Dave Morris. He's running a SBC engine, zillions of horses (450? Dunno), slicks and no windscreen wipers and had to stop halfway up to wipe the 'screen last year. Still, better than the Cerbera that went "over the top" at Semicircle. Good job I'd already drilled holes in the Chimaera floor the previous year to let the water out.
We'll be back on 22nd July. See you then!
