There must have been a few threads over the years, I have a 360 and was wondering which machine was better.

Its about a year since I read any such debates, long before the PS3 was out, and different people seemed to have different opinions.

If you'll pardon the thread (Im assuming its been discussed before!) does anyone have any facts, or a linky to another PH discussion on the subject?

Depends what you want to play, what tv you have got and how much you are willing to pay. Both consoles are more or less even on racing games. The PS3 has Gran Turismo and F1 (tho F1 is rumoured to be going multiplatform, nothing confirmed). X360 has Forza 2, and according to Simbin's website GTR is coming as well.

A bit early to tell as it's the age old story of machines only being as good as there software, we'll find out when they release a game for the ps3.

Bob... I'll answer this question before you get torn apart by any lurking fanboys of either console.

They're both pretty much neck and neck as far as games machines go. PS3 is a little weaker at the moment but will catch up once developers work the kinks out of engines.

Cheers TP beer Again!

I suspected they would be fairly evenly matched, although to be fair I didnt really read much about either, weve seen many consoles being slightly more or less powerful than their same-bit competition counterparts, and more power never meant greater success did it.

It did seem to boil down to how well the devs got on with the software, and the lineup of games.

I think I read eons ago that the PS3 wasnt going to have a Live marketplace, like the 360 has, did that turn out to be the case?

True enough

It just depends therefore which games you want to play. If you are a fan of FPS the Xbox360, with GOW and Halo3 (coming), is very tempting.

The ps3 has a marketplace style application called the Playstation store, like marketplace you can get demos, videos etc and small games like xbox live arcade. The difference lies in that you pay in £ and pence instead of points.

The PS3 also has 'home' coming which looks pretty damn swanky, imagine a second life style environment where you can walk around and chat to people, joining in games, listening to music and watching videos with them. Looks pretty special but it won't arrive until the autumn.

I have both and don't have any games for the PS3 yet as there really isn't anything out there that warrants buying in my eyes, certainly nothing at the moment that I can't find a better example of on the 360. This will all change in time, but with relatively few games that come out for just one platform these days it is worth considering whether you really need both, no longer do you have to have a playstation for Grand Theft Auto for example, you're left with the nice dilemma of which version to go for.

Currently mine is sat there as a nice Blu-Ray player, but I can't see any games that warrant a must-buy status until Metal Gear arrives later in the year.

Sounds fair enough. The Wii store uses "Wii points" but you've still got to go and buy them from somewhere, I think it's the same with the 360? All Sony have done is remove the intermediate step. Makes sense, they are aiming it at an adult market... which has credit & debit cards.

yeah, i have to admit, i looked at the PS3, once you get passed the hype, theres not much above and beyond the 360..

it all comes down to the games, and with GTA4, Halo 3 and Forza 2 on the 360 this year, well I cant see the point in splashing out on a Playstation yet.

Give it a couple of years, the price will come down, there will be more games... then worth considering.

Ive not played halo or forza, so Ive got something to look forward to. Ive still got oblivion to finish... might pick it up again this weekend

Its a shame the GTA launch is still on the distant horizon. When is Forza due out, and how does it differ from Project Gotham (which is about the only driving game Ive played in years)

Forza is a driving simulator whereas PGR3 is an arcade game. In Forza, you can modify your car and change supension etc. The first one for the Xbox is about a tenner pre-owned which I bought recently to tide me over until Forza 2 arrives.

That's currently the only video that Rockstar have released, fingers crossed more will start to turn up through the summer.

Hi Bob,

Forza is bascially MS's version of Gran Turisimo - I picked up the Xbox version (#1) for 2 quid off ebay to have a nosey, and apart from a few load issues im having, i'm simply blown away by it.

I put some thoughts in this thread further down:
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=108&t=374345&p=1

But put it like this, i'll be buying #2 the moment its released, and expect i wont be playing anything else for quite a while.

(its due out around 20th of May I think).

Ive heard positive things about forza, but does one have to twiddle around with car setup to get through the game? Im not one for spending hours testing different setups, prefer to just get in and drive.

I think this will be my most played game of 2007/08. I wonder whether it will come on multiple DVD's for the 360. Looking forward to seeing more vids! yes

Cheers fidgits. I'll pass on the original, but might pick up the new one when it comes out, time permitting

with regards the fiddling no - you can if you want, but like GT, you can just pick up and play, though you'll probably start doing aerodynamic tweaks and stuff, which seems to help, but isnt too time consuming.

and comparing #1 to GT4, i'd say Forza gets it by a nose, hence why im excited about #2!
