Andrew.
Sounds similar to mine on an S3. Obvious fluid around bell housing/slave cylinder
area gave it away. Got a seal kit for a TR7 cylinder from Rimmer Bros here in Lincs as
they are just round the corner for about £7. Since found out people also use Land Rover slave cylinders and repair kits which are in abundance. As far as access goes I found it
a bit awkward to get to but by no means impossible. Once you have the cylinder off, which you obviously have to do even if you are contemplating a cylinder change, it is a two minute job to clean the bore and change the seal so I would go for that. There are various threads on here about the subject if you search and someone mentions that they would have changed the seal with the cylinder in situ if they had known how easy it was !!
Good luck Ianm

Hi
I had a similar thing happen to me at a set of traffic lights a few months back. I pushed the clutch in and it stayed in! i.e. there was no resistance on the pedal after that point. Thinking it was the slave cylinder that had jammed, I took it off and rebuilt it (with a seal kit) only to find that this did not solve the problem. It turned out to be a problem with the master cylinder, the internal spring had broken in two places and jammed the piston. Replaced the master cylinder and all was ok...
