Griff 500 - Speed Sensor
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Another request from me I am affraid.
I have been having problems with my speedo and have decided to try changing the speed sensor (which is mounted just to the offside of the diff on my 97 Griff).
I could not remove the sensor on its own, so have romoved it complete with mounting bracket. I am now having the hardest job trying to unscrew it from the mounting bracket. has anyone else experienced the same issue?
The car has had the chassis waxoyld and I am wondering whether some of this has got into the thread and caused the parts to cease together. The frustrating part of it all is that I have a new sensor to put on, but need use the old mounting bracket.
Does anyone have any advice?
Cheers,
Alex

Have you got the locknut off, or is that stuck on as well?
The locknut's fairly narrow so you should be able to cut through it easily enough. That will release the tension on the sensor threads so it should come out easier.
Have you tried heating it up?

Thanks Sparky.
I managed to get it off with much swearing and cursing. I put the new one on and hey presto have a working speedo again. The only problem is it only works once over 40 mph!!!!!! I think I need to adjust it in so that it is closer to the tooth'd wheel to pick up a good signal at slow speeds.
It has been a really niggly job, but we are almost there now
