Just got the Sag back from 1st service. All OK apart from a slight weep from the clutch cylinder. Obviously the warranty is currently in abayance (or whatever the word is for no flipping good).

Been quoted a hefty chunk of labour (and weeny parts bill) to rectify the problem, and it has also been suggested that as I have done 5,000 miles that I might like to sink another even heftier sum in replacing the clutch as "it may soon start to suffer drag". Justification is that whilst they're in there they may as well do the whole job.

Had anticipated getting a little more than 5,000 out the clutch. Am I being optimistic ?

Clutch friction material should last ages. Its the springs that go (or something like that). If yours is working I'd leave it and just have the slave replaced (which is what I assume is leaking). Get a modded one from clever trevor - allegedly lowers the likelyhood of a repeat drippage.

Then, in a year or two once you have one of those Autoprotect wear & tear warranties get the whole lot done under warrantly (yes it is covered - mine was). Thinking about it, maybe best to replace yours with std parts so it goes again, thus allowing the above warranty claim for a whole clutch etc. ;-)

Cheers. The dealer did mention a lightweight mod version to replace the original. Just don't know whether to get them to do it or check out alternatives. Labour charge seemed pretty hefty, but then they did say it was a 4 hour job.

Same on my sagaris; slave weeped from 3k but not rectified due to approx £600-700 bill, now done 4k and stopped leaking and master reservoir is still full. Clutch started dragging a little recently;Understand the springs loose their stiffness and not clutch plate wear. All would be covered on warranty if there was one

Just had the clutch dragging work rectified on mine at around 10,000 miles. Center plate was fine but the springs on the pressure plate loose their ability to spring. Shame really as being a spring that is probably all you have to look forward in life.

No warranty coverage although the car was from a main dealer with the full TVR warranty in place mmmmm.

Cost around £700 + VAT with the Slave cylinder.

When they had the gearbox out on mine i had the cats removed as they had to drop the exhaust anyway. I would highly recommend it.

yes as Targa says, Raceproved unit sold through Clever Trevor plus slave cylinder much higher specs than original. Any competent garage could install them, no mods are needed unlike some alternative clutches.

So if I can put up with the damp patch in the garage I may as well wait for the clutch to start dragging and then kill two birds with one stone. To be honest the weep is hardly anything. You never know the warranty may be reinstated by then.

Any downside to not fixing it now ?

Well it could lose all fluid and leave you stranded with no clutch? If the clutch hydraulics are leaking then what is to stop the leak getting worse, its not as if you're going to drive like miss Daisy like you would in a 'normal' car.

So, do you feel lucky punk?

It took nearly 11,000 miles for my clutch to go from the odd weep and "occasional spongy feeling" to actually dumping the fluid as the slave cylinder seals finally died. Law of Sod of course meant I was about 9 miles from SP taking it for a service at the time!
