I want to book an airfield day - prolly Bedford with Bookatrack.

Bit worried about the noise levels with my RSR mufflers (BaT limits are

# 101dB Static. 0.5m and 45° from exhaust at ¾ maximum RPM.

# 87½dB Drive-By noise limit from 20m.

# All cars are static testing prior to entering the track.
)

Any other owners had noise levels measured ?

Bugger :-(

I don't want to take them off - I won't have anything to fight back with when all the neighbours start their mowers at 8am on a Sunday morning !

108db yikes

Certainly doesn't sound like it.

I kept my old exhausts (didn't exchange) as I though I might have trouble on the quieter track days.

Are RSRs really that loud?! I'm intending to put some on my own 993 but had been under the impression that they were a bit louder than stock, but not hugely, and more an improvement in the tone of the exhaust rather than the outright noise level.

Not that that will stop me, when I can afford to chuck some more money at the car!

Mr Lawyer,

personally, I think they are louder than a loud thing on national being loud day. Especially when pushing on the loud pedal, and especially in Dartford tunnel with the windows open ;-)

PS I'm an IT nerd at Freshfields... perhaps you've heard of us.... ?

The name rings a vague bell

I shall maybe have to see whether I find someone local-ish who has RSRs fitted and blag a passenger ride before I make a decision. I'm no stranger to noisey exhausts - my two S2000s both had aftermarket grenade launchers that were considerably louder than stock - and it's only a weekend toy for me so I suppose daily driver "liveability" is not so much of an issue.

Unless he's changed cars since he bought my seats, they are RSRs ... certainly made the neighbour's curtains twitch ..

I've got RSRs on my 993. I've been to Bedford twice without any problems. On the second trip I got a green sticker on the static test. Apparently this means yo are close to the limit. Also been OK at Donnington.

Remember when they do the static test to bring the revs up nice and slowly rather than overshooting.

Hi Lurking

Do it, fit them ,I did yesterday ,loud but not intrusive, but just how a 993 should sound The neighbors love them not !!

Be warned you will waste lots of fuel !! with the windows down on twisty country roads just listening to the sound

Neal, your Db figues are almost exactly the same as I scored at Bedford. I failed the static test, but had no problems with the drive by, so was let on track without any further hassle.

Had the RSR fitted to my old C2, with drilled out air box as well. Went to Bedford many times as well as Donny and Oulton without any prob. Keep the clutch in during static test, it helps apparently, don't know why though.

Now I have the Cargraphic box + 100 cells cat in the RS, will see what it's like when I go to Bedford in a few wks, fingers crossed.

I can't believe that RSR's are significantly louder than standard. Certainly didn't sound it to me. I bought a set from Gert and they were on for about a month. Made the tone nicer especially at tickover. They are now in the loft and have been there for a year since I bought a set of Supercups from a PHer out of curiosity. Aggresive but not too loud and give the car the character it deserves. I have no problems with excessive 'resonance' either. Attracted no authoritarian attention at the Nurburgring. Maybe my ears are defective!

Butzi- How does the sound of your 993RS compare to your 993C2? I am wondering since I have made exactly the same transition with one exception. I have yet to add 100 cell cats to my 993RS. I fitted cargraphic exhausts boxes and I think the car is quite civilised and would actually like some more sound....

What effect have you noticed form putting on the 100 cell cats to the RS in terms of power and sound?

I had the cat and box put in at the same time so can't really tell you what difference the cat makes really. Also the RS sounds bl**dy loud inside the car from stock, just sounds like a washing machine from the outside! I know some others who had put the cat after did say it makes a good deal of improvement to the sound.

The car now sounds fantastic, inside and out, almost like RSR but a louder version of it. Not too bad in the car, no booming on motorway, good rumble on low rev, decent roar on WOT. Overall what a 911 should sound like without annoying the neighbours too much. I just hope I won't have any prob in trackdays. But then an RS which had cat + cup bos and CG manifold got through noise test ok in Oulton, so I should be ok.

Hugo, can you tell me the difference between the sound of the Supercups and the RSRs?

I have RSR's on my 993c2 and have never been 100% happy with them as I find them quite 'boomy'
under 3000rpm.

Tickover sounds nice and crackly, and also further up the rev range. But sitting on a motorway at 80mph
they have a lot of resonance, and makes a long trip quite tiring. Anyone else find this? (Gert doesn't!)

I have the Motorsound airbox filter too.

cheers, Kim

Had the RSR in my C2 and never had any problem with booming on motorway. But then it was the ealy C2 with different gear ratio. May be you need to drive a bit faster too get the rev up a bit?

The RSR's are handmade or atleast handaltered which I guess might imply <100% comparability. My last set of RSR's were very loud and also had the resonance around 3000rpm but my latest set has none of this and are just perfect.
