Oh well, according to everyone I know it was bound to happen sooner or later - happens to all bikers no matter how carefull....blah, blah, blah

So there I was minding my own business when the guy in a black corsa changes into my lane without looking. I break but instead of him side swiping the whole of me he takes out my front wheel - was nowhere (I could see) for me to go as oncoming traffic is very close where this happened and I could not accelerate or I'd just end up in the boot infront...I come off, bike viers off and hits two other cars (one, the lady had only just picked up this afternoon - ) but misses going into oncoming traffic by inches...

I bounced straight back up to make sure I was not going to get splattered by the following traffic - all clear fortunately.

Bike is a mess - probably a write off, trousers have a slight graze, but jacket and lid not a scratch (shoudl obviously be a part time stunt man with the landing etc)

I called the police as Mr Corsa tried to blame me for riding into him, even though the paint is on the side of his car/bumper, not the back. Police took notes, but not going to hold out much hope...though he did spend a lot of time in the back of the police car....

Oh well...had my first bike...anyone know what is a good 'second bike'...

yikes

Pleased you seem to be OK. New Ducati 1098, with the Insurance?

You'll feel like you've had a good kicking in the morning.

John.

ETA: forgot to put "had" between you've and a.

Mr Corsa, there is a clue there.... I read it in a study once that the corsa was the most likely car to kill or injure a biker in Europe!!!

One other thought, the write off might have the basis of a track bike....every cloud has a silver lining.

Bad luck virgil, sounds like it could have been nasty but thankfully you sound relatively unharmed.

Time for some beer I think

Glad to hear you're Ok virgil. Good luck with the claim, did you have any witnesses? So long as it's established that he was changing lanes then his fate should be sealed readit

Next bike? If you don't want to make the leap to a 1098 I'd have thought there will be lots of good deals around on 999's at the moment.

Had a few beers last night, and to be honest - feel totally fine this morning...amazing what good gear will prevent!

Track bike - we'll see - certainly needs all new plastics, new headlight cradle thing and bars and bits...just seen another low mileage 748s on autotrader - will call ins and tell them how much they will have to pay out!

Or a 998...or a 1098....hang on been here before!

Did want to tt the idiot in the corsa, but to be honest, would rather see him prosecuted. To be honest I am really pi$$ed at myself as I'd seen him nearly cause an accident through not paying attention half a mile up the road - had a very clear view from a few 100 meters back - so when I came up next to him should have given him a MUCH wider berth...still that's what learning is all about.

Just such a shame I had to kill the Duke to do it!

Got both of the above, but I probaly agree with the Corsa bit, as the plonkers you see in them, myself not included of course, leave a lot to be desired.

As a suggestion for replacement bike. Has anyone tried the KTM Superduke? Excellent fun!

I wish I had been able to get up and t**t him. But realised once I couldn't get up, that would have been stupid. Was relying on him being done for it as punishment. Big mistake!! With an independant witness that saw him cut me up, he admitted not seeing me and was at fault. Open and shut case I thought. How wrong I was, BiB decided that "it is not in the pulic interest to prosecute everyone for a mometary lapse in concentration"

So don't hold your breath. His insurance paid out though, £2k damage to my then 9month old sv650

Sorry to hear this - but at least you are ok.

I went on Bikesafe course today (see this link www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=382277&f=10&h=0) and the accident you had sounds very similar to one of the examples they were showing today. Luckily you managed to have a few beers last night - the fella they showed on Bikesafe today never had a drink again, as his head got stuck under the wheels of an oncoming car as he was filtering at 15mph.

Out of all the accidents that they showed this was the one that you could imagine happening to yourself, without really making a huge mistake.

The course is worth it - even if it is just to explain the best thing you can do to avoid this type of accident (and still filter when riding!)

Neil,
Gutted for ya mate...Glad you're pretty much ok though. Sounded like it could have been worse if you'd got tangled up in the traffic, scary.
Glad to hear your already thinking about a new bike...Good stuff.

Hope you get it sorted quickly, and with the right results.

Cheers.

im hoping when they see the witness evidence goes terribly in my favour they will finally settle up, im going to push them for a brand new bike as well not just the value of an 06 reg one, good luck with your claim also.

I hope it goes well for you as well, sadly mine is looking like it could be a while, despite having concrete evidence against him (police witness!)

how are they trying to get out of paying out, out of interest?, did the accident occur in a way that liability could be contested?, with my bike someone just pulled out straight in front of my friend who was riding it without looking to do a u turn in the road so the blame obviously lies with her, how her insurance company can even try and get out of it is beyond me.

ok to put it into context:

I was on a 3 lane traffic lighted roundabout in london, i entered at the 12 o-clock postition and intended on leaving at the 12 o-clock posititon (for petrol) the traffic lights are at 3 and 9 o-clock, we came round the roundabout, i was moving from the middle lane to the outer lane at around 6 o-clock at this point a police car came through in blues and twos. So i duly moved over in my lane and waved the car through which then turned off at the 8 o-clock exit. As i then moved into the outer lane at the 8 o-clock position i was coming to a stop at the traffic lights, and the chap in the BMW X5 decided to move from the inner lane across all three lanes and into the side of me, intending to go down the road at 8 o-clock.

His defense is that, the road was pandemonium and that it should be a 50/50 claim. My issue with this is the fact i was stationary. there's a twist though, he was driving his bosses car and gave me false details, took me 3 weeks to find him. So i should imagine he's just trying it on
