Carrera 3.2 speedo intermittent operation

The speedo on my 3.2 Carrera has recently started to stop working (speed and odometer) Next day it's fine. It doesn't stop during opertation - it either works after start up or it doesn't. Illumination is working fine.
I understand it's all all electronic(no speedo cable)unit, so I'd like to now where to start looking for the cause of the glitch - any ideas or experiences?

First thing to do is prise the speedo out of the dash housing carefully. You just need a flat screwdriver to do it working your way around it, gradually increasing the amount of pressure needed and check the electrical connections on the back.

Sounds like it could be a loose one or a wire may have split or perished. From memory I think it will illuminate as it has a seperate power feed to the bulb whilst the intermitant live feed, or indeed an earth wire, to the speedo itself could be at fault. Just my thoughts at this late hour of the day

And just guessing here but will there be a feed from the gearbox that could be causing the problem. Sadly I'm no expert but no doubt someone more qualified will be along soon.
