Followed a 996 turbo 4s (I think) around Hammersmith roundabout yesterday and it seemed to have incredibly wide/big wheels. It looked pretty darn good and got me thinking! What size would these have most likley to have been? Seemed a lot bigger than my tiny 18".

18" is big!

Drove a Boxster S on 19s and thought the 18s would have been fine. Plus mine are only 16"

The problem with over-big wheels is seeing the tiny brakes in the middle, not that a turbo brake is tiny, but any more than a 1" gap and you just know they a probably a bit heavier than they need to be

I've had an 'opportunity' to drive a few loan cars from Porsche in the last couple of months including a Boxter with 19" wheels. The ride quality, albeit on north London roads, was shocking. They did look good though. Boxter with 18" was fine. Just something I would consider before splashing out.
