Had the day off yesterday so thought I’d finally clean out the inside of my 997. Was vacuuming away when I spotted one of my neighbours heading towards me - this guy is at least in his 80s and shuffles along totally bent over with the aid of two walking sticks. Haven’t lived on my street long and just got the PSE fitted so thought here we go….

The old boy finally makes it over and I’m prepared for a barrage of noise complaints with the old “I fought in the war” routine…. Nothing like it. In proper good old fashioned English:

Old boy: “I hope I’m not disturbing you but I have a rather strange request for you”

Me: “ok?” (Getting intrigued)

Old boy: “I know you’re busy but would you mind terribly one day maybe letting me passenger in your Porsche”

Took 20mins but we managed to get him in the car – windows down, PSE on and a 30min blast up and down the A40 followed. Should’ve seen the smile on his face!

To cut a long story short, turns out this guy is the biggest Porsche fan and previously owned everything from an original Speedster, 356s and lots of 911s until he couldn’t drive anymore (about 20yrs ago). He hasn’t sat in a Porsche since.

Get back home and walk him back to his house. “Haven’t had so much fun in years, maybe we could do it again next year?”. I think I’ve made a friend for life.

Top bloke and it shows you, you just never know…

Thanks for sharing. Really thumbup

Since my Dad got ill and died I've changed my attitide to the old. I used to wish they'd hurry up, now I know they'd love nothing more than to run.

Makes you think.

Good on the both of you, and hats off to the old guy.

The last young petrolhead in this neighbourhood who invited himself into the 911T after going on and on and on about his mate's "500 hp" cossie spent the entire time clinging on for dear life and pumping an imaginary brake pedal inbetween expletives. Bet this codger would have loved it

Nice one!

I had almost exactly the same thing happen to me. Old boy in his late 70's who lives in the flat above came over to me as I was washing it, not long after I'd moved in. Expecting a complaint about the noise and fumes he came up and said "what size engine is it". a bit taken aback I said "3.2" "Oh" he said "I used to race a 3.0 in the seventies. Best race car ever made" Cue an hour long chat about 911's!
Can't beat having the oldest guy in the block on your side... if he aint complaining, NO-ONE is complaining!

Great story and nice one for taking him out. Bet he loved it and most of all, probably never thought he would experience being in a Porsche agian with another petrolhead.
