Or, for example, identified accident blackspots. Or, more importantly, roads that are apparently quite safe?

Reason is I was disgusted to see a whole bunch of coppers - around 15-20 marked cars, usual Land Rover, Carlton sort of thing - clustered on the flyover crossing the A3 between Send and West Clandon, ready to scoot out and book'em when the lookout on the bridge with a laser told them to go for it.

Disgusted because the roads were fairly empty, visibility was good, traffic flowing very freely on a three-lane pseudo-motorway, and why weren't this lot all out patrolling other areas, blackspots, etc. It was just an easy win as far as I could see.

So I'd like to know if there is a statistical reason for choosing that particular spot to tax motorists - maybe some horiffic accident I'd heard nothing about, or something.

I asked my local council for these...guess what?
You cant have em....at least not for free. And not from us. Youll have to ask the police, they said...
I only wanted the KSi figures for a local road as well...to piss em off....Lolol

The (UK) definition of a free country is being challenged again.

That happend this morning but when there are traffic cops around as well the van is more likley a tax disc reader, or rather checking number plates against the DVLA database. A least it is around here.

Surely these stats are not secret for national security reasons and therefore available under the terms of the data protection act, or something similar? I mean, if plod "use" them to determine which roads to patrol on the grounds that people are having accidents and dying, then surely I also have a right to see them as a private citizen?

Well i can only go by what i was told first hand.
I was attempting to get the KSI figures for a local road where 2 gatso's had been installed within 200feet of each other on the same side of the road.
The "top dog" in the transport dept told me just bits and peices and was veeeery suspicious of my motives(so he should be ).
Anyway after some "social engineering" of my own, i managed to get him to "sing like a boyd" and learnt that the new camera was there cos the old one hadt slowed anyone down..! Oh!Big surprise..not!
He even went so far as to disclose that another camera had been installed after "political pressure" had been applied(his words).
But as for the KSI stats, he said id have to speak to the local traffic plod dept, into the shadow of the valley of death and all....er no thanx!!
Basically i think they want to make it as hard as they can for us "peasants" to find out and know whats really happening. It may expose some lies somewhere...can they afford that to happen? I wonder....
Sorry i couldnt be of more help, maybe Madcop would be able to instruct the best course of action regarding this?
Try emailing him from his profile. Good luck.

Well of course it is. The role of the non Political classes is just to pay for it all with higher taxes.

One of my local traffic saboteurs (planners, that is) told me that police charge his department for all kinds of stats.

He didn't have what I wanted......said plod would charge me (cash, that is), if I asked.
