It would be worth doing a search on this one. People have had a lot of bad experiences with Autoglass regarding the refit of the old rubber surround, kinks in the surface and poor bonding for instance.

I'm not trying to be a doom merchant; just trying to prepare you to ask the right questions before you let them start the job.

had mine replaced by RAC Windscreens a few weeks back.

The screen has got a part number printed on it which the original didn't have. However, it's a perfect fit and RAC Windscreens did a sterling job. New rubber surrounds which are now better fitted than the original ones (particularly in the corners).

Dropped the car and could pick it up 5 hours later.

AFAIK, there's only one source for Chim Screens anyway, so the screen should be perfect.

There are two manufacurers that produce good screens for the Griffith and Chimaera as far as I know. One is the factory in Finland that originally supplied TVR and now supplies TVR Power. David Gerald TVR keep the screens in stock and they bear the TVR logo I believe.

The other source is a factory in South Africa and I can guarantee that the screens do fit properly. We have replaced at least a dozen with no problems. We have the screens, top/side trims and a slightly wider bottom trim in stock.

I am not aware of anyone else manufacturing these screens. There were some around a few years ago made in Spain with the name 'Starglass' on them and these did not fit. I suspect that this is where the story of badly fitting screens started.

Our manager at Halesowen branch is a very experienced fitter and has experience on a wide range of specialist vehilces including Griffith, Chimaera and Tasmin. The branch is close to the bottom of Mucklow Hill in the centre of the town if you are interested. We can bill most insurers and you normally only have an excess of around £50-70 to pay.

We replaced a screen in Bristol on a Griffith last week that had been fitted by (or on behalf of) a TVR specialist; the job that had been done was appalling. The dashboard and pillar trims had been cut, the top and bottom trims had been cut and superglued back together and the genuine TVR marked screen had been fitted incorrectly. We now have another happy customer.

Hi

I had a screen replaced last year by Autoglass - bit of a bollox really. I specifically told them to get a TVR screen and reuse my original rubber seals. The first screen was marked Clearvue and did not fit well - it was slightly too big. They also buggered the original rubber seals. Eventually they got a TVR screen and it was a great fit but it took a whole day to fit and the new rubber seals were terrible and needed several sessions to get them presentable.

UPDATE.

Just thought i would post up the outcome, under recomendation, from 530dTPhil i went to the company he works for. www.mobilewindscreens.co.uk/ It did take the manager Neil 2 days to complete the job, but id rather it take 2 days rather than 2 hours as stated by Autoglass, and get a pukka job.
So how is it? well spot on, the glass fits perfectly, the rubber fits perfectly, i have washed the car and no leaks, and i touched 150 leptons the weekend with the roof off, and the screen and rubber stayed exactly where it should be. so i am very happy with the job and would not hesitate to recommend them to other TVR owners.

Thanks Neil.

Thanks Phil.thumbup

While we're talking windscreens here...looks like I will be needing one shortly....
But mine has a green tinted band at the top which I havn't noticed on many other TVR's, any of the suppliers mentioned able to supply with the tint ????
Would be good to keep this when windscreen gets changed if possible
Any advice ?

The screens that we supply from South Africa have the green top shaded band. Andy, we have three branches in your area; Oxford, Aylesbury and Banbury.

I used Autoglass in stroud kent to have my screen replaced a couple of years ago. The fitter was recomended by my local TVR dealer so I tracked down what branch he worked and booked it in.

Screen (with green tint)installad to perfection took about five hours but an excellent job with no issues.

Guess the moral to the story is make sure the fitter you use has experiance of fitting these screen or walk away
