I'm driving myself nuts here - I've got about 200 images and I want to resize them all to 750px wide (I'm using CS2).

I've followed all the instructions about recording an action and then applying it to a batch, but they don't appear to reduce whether I try to overwrite the original file, or save them to a new folder.

Could someone take pity and give me a Janet-and-John guide please?

Load up an image.

Under actions select a new one.

While it's recording (red symbol), resize it to the required size.

Then after the image has resized. Press the stop button.

Then go to File; Scripts; Image Processor.

Select the folder of the images, then where to save them to.

What format you want.

Then run action. Make it run the action you just made.

Then run and away you go.

I use it to process images and it normally creates a new folder called JPEG within the original files folder. This is where the new altered files will be leaving the originals untouched.

Hope this helps.

Not a great deal of help now I know but I tend to use ACDSee alongside PS for just this reason, simple tasks really are simple in ACDSee, I then use PS for the more serious adjustments.

I've just realised that we've both been sat at the PC (me on the desktop and the Boss on the laptop)for 9 hours now!! We got our first website (courtesy of the wonderful, and incidentally very attractive Mr Beeston) this weekend, and I think we'll be doing a lot of learning over the next few weeks... hehe

I'm with Dogsey on that I use ACDPro for all my batch jobs.

Faststone Image Viewer is pretty good - it does all sorts of batch conversions, including resize, add text, watermarks and other stuff. I use for generating smaller pics for uploading to photobucket.

I second Faststone as a good batch processor. It's free for home use too.
