looking at purchasing my first 993 wide body next week and in a bit of a dilema about which car to go for.
example 1 is a 993 TT up for 31k with 100k miles but with a full fPSH blue with silver leather. Honest straight car.
example 2 is a 993 c2s up for 34k with 60k miles blue with black leather and full turbo kit also fPSH.

The 993 tt seems a lot of car for the money but has anyone had any exprience of high mile examples ? how reliable are they and what about re-sale after 12 months with 115k on the clock ? do they all typically need top end rebuild around 100k miles ?

I know the c2s is a differnt car altogther but im looking at keeping either for about 12 months seems like the c2s will hold its money better they seem to be in great demand at the moment...

decisions decisions.....

Good to know it's not just me.

Had a 993C4S - an absolute minter - Aerokit, only 37k miles. Sold it last year and now regret it. Thinking about another. Or maybe a 993C2S or TT. Can't quite decide. There actually aren't too many about right now...

I went from 993 C4S to TT - BIGGGG difference... they drive suprisingly different.

All 993's are a joy to own - every trip is an event and they all look fantastic.

However for me the TT is the one - it's abilities are on a different plane to the carreras in nearly every respect....it's adictive. They're already a legend - for good reason.

The NA 993 are also fantastic cars - just different.

If the TT you've seen has something approaching a 'no expense spared' history over and above the services then it could be still in it's prime - turbos could be fine if the car has been allowed to warm up and cool down properly. Check the history for signs of clutches, discs etc and possibly turbo refurb or even top end rebuild.

The C2S is different - 60k is low mileage IMO

If the TT costs £31 that's a very low price, even with that mileage. Most are around the £40+ so you have alot of money in "the bag" should any repaires be necessary. Just be prepared to sell it at a relatively (to other TT's with lower mileage) lower price next year.

go for the turbo because with porsche its not the amount of miles you really need to look out for its the condition and as you say its a straight car then itll be a minter then and itll be quite a bit quicker.

What's the worse you can expect? £25K - there will be a queue of buyers around the corner! You could buy one for £50K with 50K miles and risk the same failures as a 100K car. Buy it and don't give it a second thought

Agreed- 31K is a very low price. And I know Porsche folks get all finicky about mileage but in actual terms 115K is NOT a high mileage. The aircooled engines are almost indestructable with their massive oil capacity, twin oil filters and rapid warm up.
Folks should get it in their head- in the market for any marque- the days of all cars being knackered after 100K miles are long gone.
As always buy on condition.

I don't know what's happened to 993 prices of late-especially in the UK, but I've seeen Turbos up at £47 to £55K with higher miles than mine. May it's just that summer is around the corner but it seems to be the same for the NA stuff too.

993 prices are all over the place generally but having a ppi done and a compression test on any high miler should alay any fears. Still my head is saying go for a c2s or c4s even if it is a high miler.. less expensive to fix if does need a top end re-build at some stage...going to see another on Friday if the PPI pans out then this could be the one..

BTW the 993 Turbo requires that you take the exhaust system off to take the plugs out to do your compression test

While you're there you'll probably have to change alot of the overheated/burnt rusty old union nuts/hangers and you can visually check the condition of the turbos

If you're worried about the investment buy the C2S, there's always a very healthy market for a car like that.

A 115k mile 993tt could be up for sale for sensible money for a very long time, if you want it to shift it has to be cheap (cheaper than £31k). If you like it and you're not worried that you could lose £5k when you come to sell it in a year, buy the TT. It's a hell of a car.

Tough call this one, both great cars, but what would you expect they're 993's
Problem with any Porker Turbo is maintenance, albeit not overly sure about the TT.
I had a 965 T2 which was a lovely thing, but god it was expensive to keep her sweet which is why i went back to normally aspirated, and now run C4S 993 which is everything bar the Turbo motor, where as the C2S is not it has the body and thats it.
You will without doubt lose more money on TT due to the miles, and as "verysideways" quite rightly states there is always a market for a widebodied 993, because they look fecking stunning at the end of the day!
Bottom line is how fast do want to go..........

993tt maintenance is remarkably cheap provided nothing goes wrong... very slightly more expensive than n/a 993 in terms of servicing and tyres, and about 50% more fuel for same mileage.

hi

I had a look and a drive of the turbo car you mentioned last week. Seemed like a good car and well looked after mechanically but it had too many cosmetic bits to do for my liking - wheels needed re-furbing, grounded under the front spoiler, leaky sunroof and some other bits - none of which would cost a fortune to fix and i certainly think its a fair price but just seemd a bit of a shame the owner hadnt spent a few quid in recent years on keeping it up to scratch.

having said all that i was very tempted !

mee to m8 nice car in the perfect colour combo but i'm only looking to keep a car for 12months and that really means one that will hold its value. Compared to the 2 a c2s is the only way forward...

Anybody got a opinion on 993 S prices at the moment it seems they range from 30k for high milers to 39k for 40k mile cars.. quite a difference...

Lovely silver 993 Turbo 'S' in Tonbridge OPC Monday and today. Not sure if it is in for a service or being looked at for sale, trade-in etc. First one I've ever seen in the flesh and it did look very nice indeed clap

Can understand why owners want to keep them given the shape of the car and the power available thumbup
