After reading a few reviews of Lightroom and it's RAW capabilites I managed to get a copy and give it a bash.
I must say I really like the layout and easy intuative workflow. The 'Fill Light' function is great and very natural. Not quite sure how to 'save as' yet, but I've only been playing with it for an hour or so.

Anyone got any good tips to share ?

"Export Photo" is what you want. It'll save off in any format you choose, restrict the output size, jpg quality, you name it.

One handy feature is the ability to make adjustments to one picture, copy those settings then apply them to the whole collection/batch. That's particularly useful for the spot removal tool if you have dust marks as they'll generally be in the same place for each image.

One thing to note though, you have to paste the settings in the Library section, not the Develop section, which was a bit counter-intuitive (in Develop, go to Photo -> Copy Settings, then go to library, select the photos you want to apply to, then Photo->Develop Settings->Paste Settings)

So can you save the settings for next time you boot up? I guess most of us have a certain style, and way we like our photos.

Now that, I don't know. Only been doing things in a batch at one sitting so far, if you follow me.

No idea about tutorials either.

Useful aren't I

Has anybody else found Lightroom much much slow than RawShooter for exporting images?
It takes 3 or 4 times longer on my Laptop

Serious question, does Lightroom offer anything above RawShooter, other than an inflated price tag..?

A few bells and whistles but not worth £100 or whatever it is. I've just upgraded to Photoshop CS3 and now I don't touch Lightroom...I can do it all in CS3.

Martin,

I understood the processing speed of RAW images in lightroom was the main significant advantage over CS2. Have they improved the speed in CS3 and can you edit multiple images like in Lightroom ?

Is CS3 worth the money over CS2 and Rawshooter..?

Shady...I've changed the way I store files now so havn't done a direct comparison, but I suspect Lightroom is faster. You can edit multiple images, as in CS2, with "Actions".

Podie...I've upgraded from PS7 so for me it's miles better, I've never used CS2 so I can't really comment.

Thanks Martin.

I think the best solution is that I take your CS3 and you have my CS2 - that way you can give a comparison. evil hehe

I'm probably being a bit thick here, but are you talking about saving the settings you applied to a photo so the photo looks the same next time you load lightroom (no need as it automatically saves your edits), or saving the steps you performed on a photo so you can perform those steps on other photos in the future? If its the latter, click on the + sign next to Presets in the developer window once you've finished editing your photo, and you can create a new preset with your own edits.

The latter, saving the settings so you can perform the same changes on a similar photo. i.e saturation, sharpening etc etc
