every thread I open starts with the latest posts with the original post at the bottom of the page.

I can only open up page 1 of multi pagers ?

seems ok for me, have you checked the settings? mine seem to change every month or so and I have to change them back...

i click on 'page 10' and the first page just keeps coming up.
