Get a police escort for your supercar

Tourist Trophy weekend launched with supercar tour

The Supercar tour last year
The Supercar tour last year
Up to 50 supercars will form a procession from the RAC’s headquarters in Pall Mall to Silverstone ahead of the British round of the FIA GT championship on the 4-6th May. The feature GT race of the weekend is run for the Royal Automobile Club’s famous ‘Tourist Trophy’.

In a repeat of last year’s event, the procession of supercars will leave London on Friday morning with a police motorcycle escort and then make the 80 mile journey to Silverstone via a non-motorway route. Once at the track the convoy will complete two or three laps of the Grand Prix circuit.

One of the cars will be chosen by the organisers to lead the procession, and also to carry the trophy up to the circuit for the event. So far, 35 cars are confirmed, including a Bugatti Veyron and a Koenigsegg CCX. If you’ve the necessary garage contents the remaining places cost £345 each (for a driver and one passenger including breakfast at the RAC, weekend race passes and VIP hospitality).

Official Entry Forms are available to download from the Silverstone website link below. These should be faxed to the organisers on +44(0)1327 856 025, or alternatively email info@motion-works.co.uk.  You can also post forms to:  Motion Works UK Limited, Silverstone Innovation Centre, Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire NN12 8GX.

Seems like fun, unless you end up at Towcester racecourse (see pic) which is about as Silverstone as 'Silverstone Porsche'

At the start, yes.

(I'm sorry, but when it's put like that it's just GOT to be done....for humor, you understand, not because I have a deep routed hatred for TVR - I quite like them. Oh ehck don't you hate when you have to put so many disclaimers in nowadays just to make a joke about TVR?)

Can't help thinking that convoy is going to look like a GP safety car period with a cop car in front being followed by a Veyron and a Koenigsegg ! I hope the Dibbles have a sense of humour.

I was registered (did it last year in the Tuscan), but just had to cancel as I'm going to be overseas - which is a shame, as it would have been amazing to see the Veyron...

Last year was great - the police were great and amazing - I was really impressed - it's not a slow pootle up the road, and seeing the bike outriders stopping traffic and then chasing to catch up with us and past us to stop more traffic ahead was amazing. My other half loved it - she thought she was a film-star for the day!!!

Any PH's taking part in this?

I have just got a copy of the route looks like fun, I am going to try and get some shots of the cars near Buckingham before zipping through the back way to Silverstone for some track shots.

I'm taking part, I went last year in my CL65 AMG, and this year in a black V8 Vantage.
Looking forward to it

Well I'd consider it if they didn't mention "21st Century" all over the place on the application. Looks like the 20th Century Corvette will just have to enjoy the roads on it's own on Saturday morning.

Yep, only 21st centuary cars invited. So like with the Vette, the GT40 will have to make its own way to Silverstone

How can the police actively support such an event? Even condone it! All the vehicles involved easily exceed the speed limit and have very large carbon footprints! The cows that provided the leather farted methane for years before they were slaughtered.

It always amazes me that these type of things want car owners to put their pride and joy on display as some form of advert for an event, and want to charge them for the privilege.

Pass.
