Engine cleaning?
Discussion
What is the best way to give the engine a clean without having to strip it down to component parts?
Can you use a de-greaser then hose it down (covering the leads etc)?
Forgive me if all you mechanics out there are reading this and thinking “is this guy for real” but I’m not exactly mechanically minded.
I have seen pictures of engine bays with spotless manifolds (That Daddy has a beautiful engine bay) and I would like something similar. I’m not jealous MUCH.

Hi
I found one of those cheap steam cleaners is great for cleaning in round the engine bay, chassis, suspension, etc. I bought mine out of B&Q last year for about 20 quid - came with a lot of attachments and hoses to get into all those little nooks and crannies. Spray lightly with the degreaser of your choice, leave for 15 minutes then start steaming away - fairly shifts the grime.

Hi
Do I have problems with electrics?
No of course not - I ain't stupid.
The steam cleaner I refer to is a small domestic unit with small jet attachments which can be directed onto very discrete areas. Much more refined and intricate way of cleaning under-bonnet components than power washing off Gunk.
I also find a lot of supermarket domestic cleaning products like Cif Bathroom Mousse, Oven Cleaner, etc. very useful at achieving top results. These products are usually a fraction of the cost of the automotive equivalents. So go on raid the cleaning cupboard.
Just use common sense and be selective (no bleach products, etc) and you can't go wrong.
