Well, i managed to shift my old Rangie (2000 P38 2.5DSE) teh day before i flew out here for the princely sum of £8,800 which for a fast sale with a dealer i was happy with, given the circumstances.
Anyway, now looking for a replacement form of transport out here (and a ricksham is definitely out). Wandering down one road i see this wee beastie on a car dealers.
MAKE : LAND ROVER
MODEL : RANGE ROVER VOGUE 4.0
REGISTERED : January 2003
(didnt think they made the P38 that late, must be a last one exported)
anyway ... this bit will make you choke on your Cornflakes ... asked teh dealer how much ...
$SG140,000, or in real money £47,000
so i had a look at how much a brand new RR was here (as if i had not been shocked enough!!)
a new Vogue would set me back $385,000 or £130,000
i have had to set my targets a little lower.
on the plus side, petrol is only about 40ppl

Yup, moved to Singapore, and yes its 110% tax on cars. (thats of the Origional Value of the car)
Plus you have something called COE (Certificate of entitlement) which is a sort of 10 year road fund licence. These cost between £6 - 20k depending on engine and market as they are bought at auction!
However, anything European carries a huge "prestige" value here too, so that adds a bit to teh ticket too.
Unfortunately to import a car it also has to be under 3 years old!!
At this rate i will be running around in a 20 year old proton...
