2nd Driver Insurance it France
Discussion
Just trying to sort insurance for the drive to Le Mans, having just spoken my insurance company they will not insure a temporary additional driver driving in Europe.
Any one know if this is normal?? Any ideas for getting a 2nd driver insured? I don’t fancy doing all the driving myself and if the Gendarmes do get hold of my licence
for any reason it would be nice to be able to get the car home!!

for any reason it would be nice to be able to get the car home!! I've always done this with no problem. Firstly with Norwich Union and latterly with Privilege.
Is it the whole concept of adding the driver for France they don't like or just your particular driver? (age, acc history, points etc.?)
It's a very sensible thing to do - we always try to make sure that every car has two possible drivers.
The idea of driving back on Monday always seems fun until you realise driving havning not slept for days is quite tricky!

I've considered insurance for a 2nd driver on two past occasions but did not need to go ahead. In both cases I got a quote of around £60 for Friday to Monday. This may appear a bit high, a reflection of the fact that this was for my son who was just about 30 with a good claims record. R.
Ditto here. Elephant (Admiral) have never taken issue with the fact that I elected to add an extra driver for the Le Mans week - Particularly commendable on the basis that it is my 22-year old student layabout brother with 0 NCB...
I would personally call them back and take them to task over this. There are plenty of other companies out there who will take your money and provide you with the level of cover you require. I too suggest a name and shame if they prove to be less-than-flexible.
As another option, you could temporarily halt your policy and take out short-term cover with one of the specialist insurers for the week.

Just got a quote for putting Blueyonder on the Griffith 500 ... got quoted £2,300 because they said he was not used to high performance cars.
only joking, they actually quoted £35 ... about £25 over the odds I know, but they said he was not used to high performance cars

Not nervous are you? It's got about 20% more power since you last drove it
... handles a whole lot better too! burriana said:

Just had a thought....the tent you have in mind, when it's packed up is it going to fit in your boot?
Just sorted my insurance, it was only £11.50 to add an additional driver for 6 days. This was in addition to £22 for the green card. I'm with privilege.
I've never done this before but having thought about it I reckon it's well worth it in case I forget the french limits are posted in km/h or I become incapacitated through alcohol poisoning/sun stroke.
