Ok, so here's the deal. I live in a small private mews with a 40 foot driveway, 3 houses at end each with a parking space. Very private, no reason for anyone to drive down.

This am I get a call from my gf who is at home alone with our baby and she is very scared. A dodgy looking guy in a red escort (no tax) parks outside & starts looking through the windows, nicks a petrol can then is just hanging around. I call 999 immediately and explain, they say say they will get someone there immediately.

2 mins later Wandsworth police call me for more details & say someone on way asap.

An hour later he drives off, during this time I have been on hold for Wandsworth police for 20 minutes.

Police arrive an hour & 15 minutes after I called them, nice guys, they tell us that the reason they took so long was that this was given very low priority.

Bloody great! They also let slip that they need to get hold of this guy for "something"! Well be a bit quicker then!

I have the utmost repect for our police force who I know are very busy but this just bloody wound me up.

If anyone knows the car - Red Ford Escort K958 MMF in Carshalton area please drop me a line. Thanks.

I often think given a situation like that, if it would be a good idea to mention "oh by the way, he might have a gun sticking out his pocket" to see if that speeds the plods up at all.
Hope they find him anyway Craig

if he comes around again I'm going to hitch his car up to my Jeep and drag it down my drive, it'll scrape the f*** out of it on the walls and then I'll leave it in the middle of the main road

(I did this once before a long long time ago when someone kept parking where they shouldnt despite about 10 warnings), the wait to see the bloke return that time was fantastic, he came back and completely lost it but didnt know who had done it. I was nearly in tears.ps. His car was a Maserati.

Maybe he now drives a red Escort, and is out to get someone who committed a criminal offence by willfully damaging his car? I don't support people parking in stupid places, but neither do I think that bragging about wrecking someones car is big or clever.

Oh i don't know, i'm not above a bit of direct action given the circumstances, it works sometimes

Probably mentioning it to anyone is not something I personally would do, however having had previous requests not to park in his space totally ignored, I feel Craig was left with with very little choice that didn't involve £20K in legal fees and 18 months in court. There is a time and place for direct action and that was one of em. Maybe the Maser driver learn't a lesson in curtesy and repsect for other peoples property, I do hope so.

sorry Mike, for the most part I'd agree with you. However, for some people asking rationally and politely isnt enough.

ps. if you could see the layout of my drive there is absolutely no reason whatsoever than anyone would drive along down it unless they had an alterior motive and if they are looking through my windows at my girlfriend and child in a threatening manner then I'm sorry but thats unnacceptable.

I had a similar problem in terms of someone parking in the way of my garage.... I simply asked a fellow PH'er to jump up and down on bonnet, roof and boot of said car.

Did it stop them from parking there? No!
Was it the correct & responsible thing to do? No!
Did I feel guilty afterwards? No!

Did I get any satisfaction from this course of action? Absolutely!

Just before I get flamed, the car was uninsured, untaxed and had been reported to the BiB several times who could take no action because it was on private land. A face to face "discussion" with the owners, which included my next course of action, has subsequently remedied the problem.

How did you actually hurt it anyway, the only thing i could think of, was the kind of paving at the runway edge. Is the bonnet re-spray stone chips there too?

I think where I slid sideways I bounced down the kerbing onto the grass quite hard and that put the wheels out of alignment.

Have always been meaning to get the bonnet resprayed, few chips (neighbours kids threw stones on it once then moved, greeat!!) did pick up a few stonechips at BThorpe so bit the bullet, hope its a good job!

There was a story a while ago in the papers.
Bloke rings police to say theres someone robbing his shed, they say they will there soon. This happens a couple of times and then the bloke rings back to say don't worry about coming out i've shot him and puts the phone down.
Within 5 minutes there were police everywhere and a helicopter above the house. The police say to the guy we thought you had shot him, the bloke turns round, hands them a water pistol and replies i thought you were too busy!!

Gulp.

We live in Wallington (Woodcote Green). Last summer the neighbour found someone in their garden, they gave chase and he ran away. Some weeks later the neighbour spotted the same person loitering around looking at the houses (much as you describe). When he was spotted he ran off to a tatty parked up red Ford Escort and drove off. He then re-appeared in the car the next day, he was spotted again and drove off.

The police were informed, my recollection is that they did actually catch someone - but I'm not sure.

From my understanding of the law (and after speaking to my local police force) if someone parks on your property or blocks you in you are entitled to use minimum force to move the offending vehicle. I've done this on police advice twice now in recent months at my Father in Laws flat in New Malden.

erm, that sounds dodgy. This guy was between 16 and 19, about 5'9 with mousy hair and quite skinny, if you get a min can you ask them if this sounds like him please. All help appreciated.

I'll try and find out from the neighbour tonight. I just called the wife to check details - definitely young skinny bloke, definitely red Ford Escort.

We think he was caught by the police and charged with some offence or other but that was last summer so he'd be back out by now anyway.

If you reported the registration number to the police and it IS the same guy they should know all this.
