I saw a camera van the other night - one bloke in the back with the camera, one in the front taking down plates. I'm 2 days into the '14 days of stress'

I've had a couple of these but no tickets. You should be ok.

I believe they can take a picture of you and manually take down your plate, though its never happened to me.

Good luck though!

You could always clutch in and lift it up to 1 wheel as you go past so they can see the plate.

i heard that mobile speed cameras can't get bikes as they aren't accurate at reading the speed, is this true?

Good point. The laser ones need a flat target (usually the car number plate) and as bikes don't have any suitable flat surfaces at the front they can't get a proper reading.

This probably wouldn't prevent the barstewards from using an incorrect reading as "proof" that you were in fact doing a recorded 287mph.

That is true, they are not very accurate...MCN proved this when they tested a lazer camera on a stationary Fireblade and it recorded a speed of 40MPH!

Sadly, despite pressure from MCN to make prosecutions invalid on bikes, the powers that be decided the devices are accutate enough so whatever speed they clock you at, stands as legal.

..and yes, it is legal evidence for the camera operator to write down your number as you pass and see that thru to prosecution.

Mounting your number plate on spring washers (so its vibrates like mad)and swerving (if road conditions allow!) as you pass the camera help to make it nigh on impossible to clock your plate.

Yep that is correct, ping your speed with camera than manually write down your plate, my brothers advice was to swerve like mad! Remember the 2 guys caught in Northampton, was in MCN, the guys in the camera van heard the bikes coming had time to turn the camera around and ping them both....
