Coolant temperature

Rather than the previous average of 90 degrees, dropping to 75 on the open road and occasionally increasing towards 95 in traffic, it now sits at 90 and increases into the bottom end of the red, never dropping below 90 even when cruising at night on the motorway.

The fan seems to be cutting in at the right time (the temp does drop when it gets too high) and is certainly running when the car is stationary.

I lost a lot of coolant over the weekend and replaced it with pure water, so that won't be as efficient, but to this degree?

I'll be looking to fit an over-ride before the summer, but there anything else I can do right now to get it sorted?

Make sure you dont have any blockages on your radiator, leaves, paper, crud etc thats stopping the airflow. Your fan is working but do you know if it is spinning at the correct revs ? is your radiator clean inside ? thermostat opening ok? water pump OK ?

you haven't replaced the temperature sender/otter switch have you ?

I cant think of anything else to check...

Could you have an airlock which could cause some of the loss - would it run hotter though - hmmm? Thermostat could cause some higher temp I guess?
