Had a problem starting a westfield with a 1.6 cvh, changed the battery which seemed bad anyway. Some one told me it was the starter, slow turnover,so after checking the connections ordered a reconditioned one of ebay bosch cvh starter pretty standard arrives in the post fine looks exactly the same go to fit it and find its a different mounting, early pinto gearbox. Get another one swaped over pinto fitting lucas unit which is a bit longer and closer to the manifold. After fitting and refitting it just clicks when powered up. The one thing that might be a problem is that the original starter had a mounting spacer 10mm which also fits the lucas unit and seems to match up the same, woundering if this spacer is not needed on the pinto motor, don't want to try it in case it wrecks the fly wheel.

If I were you I would suspect the starter solenoid rather than the motor - that is what makes the clicking noise - when a solenoid starts clicking it is very tired, and when it clicks but intermittantly gets the starter to turn over but only slowly then it is likely to be totally shot. Secondhand starter solenoid from a breakers yard or ebay ought to be only a few quid. I'd stick the original starter that fits properly and turned over back on and a replacement solenoid and see where that gets you.
