Did I just get an ASBO!??!
Discussion
I'm not even sure how to put this as I'm currently in shock! I think I just got an ASBO.. because my car has a "loud" air filter which apparently caused "alarm"... erm.
Not really much to say about this because nothing really happened. I came around a corner at the bottom of the Leatherhead one-way system. I was driving spiritedly, if that's even the right word, but well below the speed limit. I just like using a heavy foot in low gears to listen to the sound of my lovely Gruppe-M intake barking away. Anyway, around the corner I go, quite sharp, so probably 20mph max, then the road climbs up a hill, so a quick stab in 2nd up to I suppose 30-35mph, and then I back off and into 3rd to cruise, and suddenly a police officer appears from a car park waving at me to pull in. So i do, and I know that I was drawing attention to myself, but I also know I wasn't speeding excessively. He didn't have a laser or any other speed-trap device anyway.
Anyway, I get out of the car and he proceeds to ask me what the speed limit it - to which I correctly reply 30mph. He then says that he has stopped me because I was speeding (!), not that he'd know since he had only heard me, not seen me, and had no equipment to verify any speed I was doing! Then he goes on to tell me that my plate is illegal (it's spaced UR 02 SLO, instead of UR02 SLO, but with legal lettering) and that my windows are illegally tinted.
Well I've learnt it's easier to just nod and not cause a fuss in these situations, so I just accept what he says and agree that the plates should be spaced correctly etc. He then proceeds to tell me that he's going to let me off the fines for these offences, which could be £30 each, but that instead he is going to give me an Anti Social Behaviour warning (he described it as like a "yellow card"
, which meant that should I be found committing a similar offence again in 12 months my car can be taken from me!
Now I appreciate if I were doing something that was in anyway harming or seriously annoying someone, or causing any danger that it would be fair enough. But I hadn't actually done anything. The traffic was extremely light (as anyone who's driven through Leatherhead at about 8.30pm would know!), and there was only one other car on the road within about 150yards when I came through the one-way system. What worries me more though, is that I've been issued this with no apparent proof (apart from the sound of my car accelerating up a hill!), for the most miniscule of offences (on the form I was given - an SSS1 whatever that is? - he has put "Alarm" in the Behaviour column!?), and should another police officer take a disliking to me (or my air filter!) then my car can be taken away!???
Sorry, I'm just gobsmacked at the moment at how easily this has been dealt out and the implications to me for what is the most harmless of acts. I put my hands up - ok, my car isn't 100% legal - the numberplate has an extra space in it, and it has the lightest possible tints on the front windows.... oh and a barking air filter. But wow. Talk about a heavy hand.
Am I making more out of this? Was this heavy handed? Is this acceptable, and the appropriate use of an ASBO? Have I even got an ASBO now, or is it a warning, with the "reoffence within 12 months" resulting in an ASBO? Meh!
My girlfriend thinks it's hilarious as I'm probably one of the quietest and laid back people she knows and not some trouble-making, hoody-wearing chav
Ahhhhhh.. rant over. How rediculous.

www.hampshire.police.uk/NR/rdonlyres/FC5DA188-1F5E-468B-99A2-3DB2B615FDD9/0/28503.pdf Thanks for that. I understand what I've been given now. What I still don't understand is how easily it was handed out, and how relatively easily it could be handed out again and my car taken from me. I geniuine do not believe I was driving in any particular way to cause alarm or distress to anyone, yet interestingly, there seems to be no way of challenging the decision that's been made by the officer that stopped me?

Do I detect a non-sequitur here? - Streaky
Read this with interest, think it's not exactly the best use of police time. One question, IF the OP gets "caught" again carrying out this incredibly illegal act, and his car is taken from him. What happens to it? Looking at his profile i think losing either of his current fleet would be rather annoying to say the least!
its a sad state of affaris in the police at the moment, not long before its all turned on its head and the high ranking jobs are elected.
that will see propper policing as the scrotes who want the next step of the ladder have to be seen to do somthing worthwhile rather than scoring easy goals all the time.
and I for one cant wait.
