I am about to buy new tyres for my non PAS Griff 500.

I have the standard 15" alloys on the front, and I am unsure if I should go 16" all round (I have a set of 16" alloys spare).

I believe that I would need to have spacers fitted if I go 16" at the front?

Advice appreciated.

I am not a fan of the 16s on the front. I keep thinking about it but whenever I park next to a SE I go off the idea, they do something to the front of the car which just doesn't work for me. Takes away some of the aggressive looks or something

Each to their own. I obviously like them, but I also like the 15's. Suck it and see what you think.

lol, didn't think it would be long before you showed your face

Not all SE's run 16's at the front, correct?

Mmmmmm Smiley Wars.............

16" wheels & rounder lower tyres seem to suit the steering geo IMHO.

IIRC some have run without spacers, if you have clearance I could see the advantages.

lol, I wasn't sure, I thought I had read somewhere that only the later numbers did. But since yours is one of the first I guess not, not that I have noticed the any difference in stance on yours anyway. I was parked next to No53 at the March meet and it looked just plain wrong next to mine, but then again in the photo on the SE website its looks very high at the front also, so maybe its just that car.

I know the one you mean and yes, it does look very high at the front, but that is not the wheels. I think its the suspension set up from the factory or something or other!

Nothing wrong with 16" at the front.

Provided there are 17" wheels at the back.

I think the wheels can actually catch the wishbones on lock Simon. The more inward you get the wheels the closer they are to the axis of the ball joints thro the hub - I think this also get enhanced by the softer rounder tyres & possibly a tad more camber IMHO. I believe this may be why I am happy with fairly different geo from most - the rack stops for the spider kit should have been bit of a clue but I didn't put 2+2 together at the time (& dont trust my measurements anyway!).

Am I missing something here then, what are 'rounder tyres' paperbag

Can anyone give any recommendations on replacement 15" tyres that are w,x,y,z (or whatever) rated. I seem to be able only to find Dunlop SP9000 in 205/55/15 and I'm going to need some before Le Mans since the wonky bearing has worn out the inside of the tyre now.

Current tyres for info are Goodyear Eagle F1 rear and Michelin Pilot Exalto front. Anyone know if you can get the F1's in 205/55/15 ?

Hi

I have 16"s on the front of my 4.3 precat - primarily to allow 300mm discs and 4 pots - BUT they work exceptionally well IMO. I need spacers for the Camille Gottis/T1Ss but only because of the calipers not the suspension - I don't need the spacers for my spare Chimaera wheels/R888s.

The stance of the car has nothing to do with the front wheel size as the overall size of the tyre/wheel combo is the same whether 15"s or 16"s. The stance is down to the suspension adjustment only.

Sorry, rounder in cross section ie more compliant & rounded shoulders/sidewall... - compare Toyos & Bridgestones for example.

I have just fitted Hankook RS2 Track/road tyres and have to say they are fabulous, I went for 245 45 16 on the back as per original but 205 50 15 on the front rather than 55, the tyres do come up larger than the SO3s I had before so the rolling radius is within tolerance, and W rated. Turn in is much sharper, went out yesteday on soaking roads and had no problems at all. Just need to fit my Gaz Golds at the weekend.
