2000 RPM stutter
Discussion
Hi everyone,
Just a quick (hopefully!) question: My chim is running fine in most respects but just recently has picked up a horrendous stutter at around 2000rpm. This happens in every gear regardless of engine temp (though it is worse when cold) I also noticed this morning its hunting a little on tickover.
Post 2000 rpm its absolutely fine, all the way up to 5000+ (just for testing purposes!)
Anyone have any ideas? The leads, extenders, dizzy cap and rotor are about a year old, new plugs and fuel filter on service about 3 months ago and i've cleaned the stepper motor! I can't think of anything else that could affect it only at the rev range - AFM maybe?
As always, any help much appreciated.

<<edited to add>> Forgot! New Bosch coil not long ago as well!!

Is it only happening with the foot to the floor, or at partial throttles too? Just thinking the TPS could of gone a bit dicky?
Did the stutter coincide with the service? Maybe a connector as become slightly dislodged, or something like the vacuum advance pipe has become split?
Regards
Iain

Mine used to do that, I changed plugs, leads, coil, cleaned stepper and all helped a little to improve things however the biggest improvement was when I took it for a RR session at TVR Power and they chipped it for me. Dom told me that they all do it as standard at 2000rpm. It's highly annoying I know, almost as though the engine stops for a brief split second or so.
Yeah - thats it! It can be almost like hitting a brick wall.
I've checked the vacuum hose and that seems OK, the vacuum point as well seems fine as I know they can work loose. The thing about the TPS is interesting, I'll try opening the taps if it does it on the way home.
As an aside, with the Mark Adams chip going on Fleabay for around 350 notes (self fit, obviously) does anyone know how much difference this would make - just fitted without an RR session?
Cheers

Best option to find and fix the problem quickly would be to take it to your favourite specialist and have them diagnose it as it could be one (or more) of a multitude of things. One thing you could try for free though is to disconnect the ECU for a couple of minutes. Once reconnected it will have to 'learn' all its inputs again, from the road speed sensor, AFM, throttle pot., temperature sensors etc. Drive it for a few miles in different conditions and see what happens.
