Hi chaps

remember a while ago I was complaining that I was getting stopped on a regular basis by plod for no just reason. Mostly in the 930 but also on the bike.

Last saturday had a real fun stop ! Probably about 4am coming out of the West End - a few cars in front of me we're all doing around 35 - 40.

Then the lights come on - what a surprise. So I get out - "is there a problem ?" I ask. The answer comes back " you were driving at dangerously and past the speed limit ! "

"Oh you mean following the other traffic in front on me and doing 34mph?"
"No you were doing 60mph + "
"When ?"
This was the best bit - he tells me I must of been because it had taken him that long to catch up with me. Bare in mind that he had sat at the red light when mine was green. And then had to sit at another set of lights because I had gone thru soe lights when they were turning Amber. I point this out to him.

"You're going to kill someone drivig like that" "I don't care what car you drive blah blah ..."

"Well I'm sorry but I was driving with the traffic and I would guess it was around 35mph - which isn't driving dangerously"

So then he wants to see my docs (which I now keep with me) Amongst them is my race licience. This is a good bit as well!!

"What's this - so you think you're a race driver" - "Actually I am - that's an International Race Licience that's why I don't drive dangerously or racve on the road because I can do on the track"

"I don;t care what driver you are - you need lessons - you're going to kill someone - rant rant rant".

So basically I let him get on with it - didn't raise to the bait. Eventually they let me go.

Whenever I get pulled over - I'm generally behaving myself. So I getting tugged because 1. they'#re bored 2. it's a red porsche 3. I'm now known ?

Total bolloxs - I could drive circles round any of they're advance drivers - in fact they use a testing area that we use sometimes and they're bloody crap from what I've seen.

So I was advised that I should take their numbers down - but I only see that as inflamming the situation.

An official complaint stating dates times and officer numbers etc to the local cheif - via a solicitor should do it.

Im sorry if youre always getting stopped but please dont say things like " I could drive circles around any of their Advanced Drivers" because you and i both know that this is total rubbish, and a statement more suited to a spotty 17yr old with his Red XR3i.

I appreciate that you have the ar?e with the Police but for the record, i for one only stop people that commit offences and do not try to wind people up so please dont tar us all with the same brush.

If you do feel that youre being victimised then take details of the circumstances, officers name etc etc keep a log then make a formal complaint.
Also look seriously at what youre doing at the time because im sure that if youre getting stopped all over the place and by different officers then perhaps you should keep your driving for the "Racetrack".

You must have heard the saying....Theres No Smoke Without Fire........
Anyway.......Maclaren drivers..hmmmmmmm...i can imagine that they do get stopped because they are exotica!

JM...do you really believe that this is none of your doing in any way? Im not doubting you as I dont know the circumstances exactly but...

1) I get pulled over a LOT. My particular chariot does get a lot of attention, and the police are always fine about it....make up a reason to pull me...but are generally very polite.
2) Just because you and your car can drive very well is irrelevant. When laping in your Caterham, aside from someone potentially crashing in front of you, everyone is going roughly the same speed in the same direction. Racing is EASY compared to road driving if you ask me (and yes, I hold a race license too). On the road its every numptie and their mother to watch out for....frequently (as i observed to my amazement this morning) not even using the existing road network!

Whilst you might be getting pulled what you think is a lot...ask yourself why they should chose to target you specifically...cos it ain't boredom. Thre are a number of TVR-owning polizei on this forum so it cant exactly be desperate jealousy can it?? And if its cos 'you're known' - then what are you known for?!

Hi

When I'm being puled over is mostly during the early hours. 3 - 5am.

I'm pretty careful at that time of night - ie I'm keep an eye out for the police. Touch wood I've only ever had one speeding ticket and that was a Truvello.

I honestly believe it's because I'm driving a red 911. Saturday night there were 2 cars ahead of me. All doing the same speed. One was a bloody mini cab so we could presume (if recent TV shows are to believed) that the car was uninsured, not taxed and was driven by a trained bush wombat.

I've only once been breatherlized - I've never been given a producer (though recently I've started to carry all my docs). If I'm doing something wrong - then nick me for it. And that's the point. Nothing ever happens (not wanting to tempt fate at all).

I'm always aware of plain clothed cars (two people in the front seat etc). always check all the junctions. Basically if I ever do speed then it's away from plod's eye.

Not going to go into driving ability etc pointless area to discuss really.

I used to get pulled over all the time when I was 18 driving an Red XR2 (sorry it wasn't a XR3 !!) - same deal - late at night etc.

Maybe that's it - driving late at night in a red car.

I guess I shouldn't complain really at least I've got a clean licience.

surely your not comparing a TVR to a Porsche !!
When I was driving a Cerberra last year - that was even worse - maybe it's just harder to be a discrete in one !

If you're driving around the West End in a flash car at 4AM then surely you're more likely to get stopped by the police than someone who does the same at say 10pm? The Police are looking for something to do at that time of the morning ...

I'm sure you're more likely to be reined in at night; between cards and doughnuts, it must be a bit dull for the chaps on owl patrol so somebody poncing around thinking they're Tubbs (or indeed Crocket) probably does deserve a jot of collar feathering, what?

Same thing used to happen to me when I was a-courting 'er indoors; why, I was forever being hauled by the old strong arm, spread eagled over Zuffenhausen's porliest slab of front heavy galvinised steel, thence to be fiercely reprimanded for getting it completely wrong and not driving the contemporary automotive phallus of the day, the Testarossa, rather than this poor man's excuse for a GT.

I think they're probably just irredeemable Tifosi.

Perhaps the officer mentioning he was concerned about your speed is his way of validating his pulling you over for the real reason such as to check you hadn't been drink driving or that you had not stolen you rather nice car.

As for being pulled in frequently have you plotted the times and places, because there may well be a pattern which although annoying is understandable when you step back.

Wouldn't have a problem with that - if that was the case. But I've only once been breatherlized and this guy was just being an arse to me. If they're decent about it, then I don't have a problem - I'll even use the line that I'm glad that they do stop cars because who knows if it's stolen - it's when they get all b/s about it.

That's the one. I was pulled up at 1.30a.m., doing 27mph. in a 30, by a Police car I noticed moving along a side street parallel to the road I was on, in the God-forsaken hole that is Glossop. I was pretty fed up about it, as I was on my way back from IOM, had been driving for 4 hours ,all at legal speeds, plus 4 hours on the ferry, and some spotty cuntstable pulls me up with the sad line "There's been some sports car thefts round 'ere lately".

It's pathetic, and doesn't instil any sense of confidence in the Police's ability to act responsibly.

I was pulled over a few months ago in Muswell Hill - 4am again. Plod car coming towards me down a residential street. Saw him stop - and start to turn around.

He caught up with me at the next lights - usual BS - then the insight - "just as well it wasn't the other guy on tonight - he makes a habit of pulling over these flash cars" - from the horses mouth.

It's flash car envy - and lack of a decent BJ.

Actually I think one of the reasons is that on these occasions the night has been fruitless and I'm alone in the car. When I was fully attached I was never pulled over. So maybe single bloke in flash car is a valid target ?!

I've had this myself - "I don't mind you speeding mate i do it myslef on my motorbike at weekends i just don't do it when theres an f**ing copper around"

Bearing in mind it was rush hour traffic in South Harrow so i was crawling along.

Forget the Nissans, last time I was stopped (the last 2 times in fact!!!) it was in a Nissan Stanza. 1 am passing through Hawick. PC asked where I was going. "Ashby de la zouch " says I. "Where the ferk is that?" says copper and kindly lets me on my way after being told where it is and that I would be going straight back after picking up the Father-in -law. 500 mile round trip then back to work........

Might just be boredom on their part.
