Does anyone know of any regular mtb club meets / rides in the Wiltshire / South West region?

There are 4 or 5 of us who tend to go out riding, however shift working and holidays can mean that solo / pair rides are more common.

Interesting in going to new places, and riding with new people for a change, and have not had any luck googling around as yet.

Neil_Bolton, Mechsympathy & I do a semi-regular (weekly-ish) weekday evening ride if you're interested.
When the lazy feckers can be ar$ed to drag themselves out, that is!

Where abouts do you go?

Do you have any local (ish) haunts at weekends?

Try bikemagic.com and singletrackworld.co.uk for people to meet up with.

Also ask in your local bikes shops, many shops organise group rides.

Seen that place on the internet. Is it any good? Anything challenging there, or it is a bit of a pleasure ride kind of place?

Not at all. Whilst lacking slightly on the vertical thrils front (although there is one bastard rooty semi-downhill), it can be very technical at times.

Venture round the long root, and you'll be concetrating hard.

No pleasure ride about it. You want St. Phillips for that

Stil Woods (Providance Plantation) just down the road is very good for DH/Freeridey type people and I'm gagging to get my sorry arse up there now its been dry recently.

Yer more than welcome to arrange something if you want me to show you around...

Big trees round there then

May well hold you to that.

Now that summer is here (looking out the window at the rain) I intend to get out and about to experience as much as possible around a day trip radius, or weekend when funds and time allow.

There's the MTB specific trail that goes around Ashton Court and 50 Acre Wood but there's also a lot of riding in Leigh Woods and other patches of forest that aren't marked on that map.

Which reminds me, Neil - I must drag you over to Leigh Woods a bit more often once the light improves in the evenings.

If your near swindon i know www.redplanetmountainbikes.co.uk organise rides. I've never been but someone my girlfriend works with mentioned them.

If you go to leigh woods at some time would you mind if i tag along, I've been told there routes through there but i have no idea where and tend to just go round the ashton court route.
