E39 - Heater fan stopped

Hi, anybody had a problem where the heater fans have suddenly stopped ?

The fan speed display scrolls up and down to as if increasing or decresing fan speed but nothing. This has happened a couple of times before and then started working again !!

I have been thinking along the line of brushes in the motor or something ?

9/10 its the heater resistor pack(hedgehog) that has failed-easish to replace,parts about£50

Cheers for that, is there anyway to confirm that prior to spending £50 ?
