GTR news 3: 1,200bhp for launch

One turbo and 1,200bhp
One turbo and 1,200bhp
We might as well make it a GTR Thursday. This is Keith Cowie’s R32 GTR with which he hopes to capture the title of ‘World’s fastest Skyline on road tyres’. Currently, he’s believed to be the third quickest, which in itself sounds very quick indeed.

To help him on his quest he’s got one large turbo the size of a dustbin - otherwise known as a Garrett GT4247R hybrid - meaning the Nissan straight six lump produces 1,200bhp.

Keith tried for the record at the weekend near Oxford, but problems with the sequential flat-shift gearbox, a misfire and a split in the anti-lag exhaust meant he didn’t quite make it. Still, he managed a searing 8.86 seconds quarter mile at 161mph running 2.7 bar of turbo boost.

Best of luck next time Keith, from PH.

Out of interest, does anyone know what sort of 0-60 time that equates to?

Hi i would just like to add that some of the report on how we got on at the weekend is wrong.we did not have a problem with the OS88 sequential gearbox, plus we were running 2.9 / 3 bar boost.

The only problem that we did have was from the TDC sensor it was not doing its job right and was giving the car a bad misfire.with the car having a misfire i was having to short-shift,plus i had to use the clutch to change gear, when the car is running right i will be able to use the flat-shift and go up the box without using the clutch.

Fantastic work Monsieur Cowie and the team!
Was meant to be coming down with craig (geordieboy) on the weekend, but got tied up with work stuff, gutted

Can't wait to see the car on top form and showing them who's boss, sounds like it's going to be putting down even more serious times than it is already very soon. clap

Cheers,
Stu

It was at Shakespeare County Raceway, closer to Stratford than Oxford!

In the credits they mention using DDR1 drag slicks, which iirc aren't legal for TOTB.

Nice. Interesting that the Dragon Rx-7 ran a 9.83 (iirc) with 161mph terminals. Shows a big difference between 4wd and rwd (assuming the liners are runnign 4wd!)...

Also note that the dragon car (if I remember rightly) is still a full manual H pattern box, Keith's is sequential (again, iirc)
