I've got a pair of heavily worn P Zero Rosso Corsa's on the back of my GT3 which need replacing and a pair with a fair bit of tread left on them on the front.

I've heard there are better tyres for the GT3 (MK1 - 80% road 20% track use) than the P Zero's but was wondering if I need to replace all 4 if i'm going to switch tyre makes?

If that is the case, and I do decide to change all the tyres, am i likely to notice enough of a difference over the existing Pzeros to make it worthwhile throwing a pair of part worn fronts away?

Finally, what are people's recommendations for a tyre that will suit my needs - looking back using the search function brings up a whole host of confusing options from the past (what's available / not etc) - I'm hoping for a simple view of the current picture.

The car's going on a 3000 mile trip of Europe including the ring at the end of May so the tyres need to last reasonable well!

Thanks,

Chris

DO NOT MIX TYRES.

I have just had Toyo Proxes T1-Rs which were good. Just about to try the R888s for summer.

Ok - clear as a bell on that one

Can you get good tyres from Costco - seem to remember chat on here about them being good value?

Why not just put another pair of Pirellis on the back.

I suspect that by the time you've finished your 3,000 mile ring trip, all four will be due for replacement anyway.
I quite like the P Zero Rossos (all round) on mine ...

I'm with Jeremy - just put a new pair of Rosso on the back - unless you want to spend another £700ish on tyres.

CostCo only do Michelins but I think that is the best tyre anyway. But also the most expensive. CostCo do do them at a very competitive price though.

You could always sell you part worn Pirellis on eBay or something. You can sell anything on there.

Imho, Michelin PS2 is the best all round road+occasionaltrack tyre.

But sadly they are not available in the correct Mk1 sizes.

My dads just put two new Michelin Pilot sports on the back from Cost Co just over £400 cheap as chips compared to other places.

Are those Boxster sizes though? 265 section?

One more thing on this subject of mixed tyres.
My car has mixed tyres currently and it has been through 2 OPC inspections as well as a major service at an Indy. None of them mentioned this fact. They just commented that all tyres were Porsche N rated and that was fine.

I spoke to the technician at the last inspection about it afterwards and he did say it was advisable not to but does not really cause a huge problem. Just make sure they are all N rated. Mine is a 4WD too, where I would have thought it makes even more of a difference if any.

Yeah 987 Boxster S rears. I drive a 986 Boxster and the guy i bought my car off has put Dunlops on the back and Avons on the front not N rated. Im just driving steady with them till they need replacing then i will put Pilot Sports or P zeros on.

I momentarily mixed tyres on my precious 911 (a 964). The difference between mixed tyres and same tyres was chalk & cheese for that car. What tyres are you mixing?

I guess the question is would you risk mixed tyres on a GT3 for a cross Europe hoon that will take in all kinds of roads from english motorways to alpine passes, some playing on the world's most dangerous racetrack, and god knows what weather conditions?

I'm thinking I won't. Will look at the fronts closely this weekend and if they've got the legs in them for the trip i think i'll take jeremy's suggestion and whack on a couple more Pzeros at the back. I think i'm going Michelin all round when they're toast.

Ahh S02s... Had them on my Cerb. Didn't exactly endow the car with huge amounts of traction, but then i'm not sure that was the tyre's fault!

I meant that the S02s were probably doing an admirable job but that the construction of the cerb probably wasn't helping matters i.e. low weight over the back, TVR handling!

Would definitely look at the S02s for the GT3 if they're about.
