Will the new M3 attract a premium for the first few months?

From what I've read, there's apparantly a two year waiting list already, and even if there's a bit of negative comments on the looks and price, I'm sure once we get the first UK roadtests, it will be head and shoulders above the competition, and very much the car to have.
I think used values will remain strong for at least 12-18 months. There is a difference between the M3 and the M Coupe, in that the M Coupe was always a niche product that appeals to a limited audiance, therefore was never a big seller, it also lacks the practicality of the M3 and can't realistically be used as a family car.

Get an early car and you will be able to run it for twelve months and virtually get your money back. That's what I did with my last M3 - prev. model - it won't be until well into year two that prices will start to soften as the waiting list comes down and a few become available second hand. The despised speculators keep prices up during the first year too - whether they actually achieve the premiums they ask for or not. I got one of the first of the prev. generation M3s and sold it back to my dealer at very close to list price after a year. He then sold it for list price. I'm expecting to do the same with my new car - arives Sept!

No.
The clobbering will not be as severe as it is with a Z4M - but you will receive a clobbering - there is a chance you could own one for a few months and it could cost you little if anything at all - but soon afterwards the only way is down - and it is quite a long way as well.
Don't get me wrong - I love M3's but I have seen this with every new M3 that gets released - Unless you are getting it day 1 - Do not buy if you do not want to lose money

No.

I think my previous post is a more accurate guess of what will happen based on experience of having bought three of the previous generation M3s new - two coupes and a cab. The exception was the CSL which was hideously overpriced (pleased to say I cancelled my order) but became stunning value second hand - as you appear to have appreciated nbetts!
