For the last couple of years I have stayed at a chateau about 10 miles outside of Le Mans, great to get away form the crowd and we have a swimming pool, only problem is that we cannot get any coverage from RLM.

Does anybody have any suggestions (apart from moving nearer to the track) how we can pick up RLM without using an internet connection?

Answers on a postcard please!

I wouldn't worry about it.

A lot of incessant chatter about a load of old crap and "do you remember when..." and not nearly enough updates on what's actually happening in the race

Agreed but it's still nice to hear what's going on when away from the track.
I remember in 1995, those were the days, you did not know when RLM waas going to shut, they never had enough money!

Yeah, no worries about them running out of money now, with that bloody Corvette dealership advertising every 5 minutes! I'm not sure, but do they not team up with motors TV? So if you can get uk sky, you could hear them that way. Does involve a TV and a big satellite dish though!

Also, what type of radio were you using to receive it? e.g. small battery operated portable, or car stereo, or big household one? You might get more luck with a household radio with a large TV style aerial, or maybe even an RF signal booster. Like this:

www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=943&criteria=rf%20signal%20booster&doy=26m4

No idea if it's any good, just an example.

As a last resort, phone them up once they're on the air, and ask them to turn up the broadcast signal strength!!

Hope this helps.

Since it's so difficult to get any sense from Radio Le Mans of positions in the race (or any real news, come to that), does anyone know of an alternative? For example, a basic website with updated positions?

And who can forget the immortal reply to the question;"Who's that coming into the pits then"? The reply was breathtaking: "Don't know, but he's got Shoei written on his helmet".

The official Le Mans website has hourly updates of position posted during the race, you could also try www.crash.net as they do likewise.

I have difficulty getting Radio Le Mans anywhere except near the pits, for example you can't get a signal down at the Mulsanne car parks or at Arnage.

I think Radio Le Mans is also on the Interweb via the Autosport site www.autosport.com so if you have internet access you can listen online.
